Nope. No public accusations of any kind should be allowed. Allowing it only leads to cancel culture and mob rule.

what good do you think it would do?

the way i see it,

if they are trolling

they want you to respond and fight with them

if they are not

you have made an error that might/should get a warning/ban

it is a no win situation for you

after reporting is the ignore and move on to let the mods decide what to do

it has the added benefit of taking that worry off of your hands

Trolling, flaming, etc. are all a way to get attention. So you reacting is giving them what they want.

You don't need public opinion, the rules are pretty clear on this particular subject.

We don't need to call out trolls, it makes them stronger. Then more people pile on, and it turns into a giant one up fest and mess of trolling and spam. I'm okay with letting trolls fade into the nether.

It doesn't matter how we feel, we are just users, valve owns steam, and steam has rules and guidelines for all conduct that users agree to follow while utilizing the steam app, client, websites and community chat, groups, and forums.

People have power with their money and it matters what they think. Steam would change their policies if enough people spoke up against it. I’m willing to bet this is a fairly biased group of mods replying but I stand corrected. Not many people seem to agree with me. I personally feel that leaving the power up to individuals leads to power abuse and creates a worse situation than mob rule, but that’s just my asinine opinion.

Nobody here is a mod and very few people would actually agree with you. Mob rule is never good, perhaps you should read up on the Salem witch trials.

Going around calling people trolls by some arbitrary and highly personal opinion is only going to incite others to do the same, leading to harassment that could very well extend to other platforms and even escalate into further violations, like doxxing.

What you're asking for is verbal warfare, essentially. The only way to prevent that is moderation.

Right so you should be able to call people out so that others can go “actually that’s a verifiable fact and he’s not a troll” or others can back the person up and say “yes you are a troll”. If all you do is say that people are never allowed to call it out and we must trust the central authority, mods, to do the right thing, which they almost never ever do. Modding attracts a certain personality that enjoys lording over others and it’s too frequently abused. Free speech should be allowed as long as it isn’t abusive.

Moderation assumes the moderators are going to act justly, which they almost never do. Free speech is the only true solution as long as it’s respectful and polite.

Neither option. I don't mind trolls. They are fun to mess with.
