Political rage bait, nothing more. People want ♥♥♥♥ to be angry about, they're told to be angry about these things and instead of finding games they enjoy, they'd rather spend time shouting at everyone about how a game they supposedly liked has "gone woke".

Most people, regardless of their views, really don't give a ♥♥♥♥ whether something is "woke" or not, because we just want good games to play.

Used to be the only question people asked is, "is the game good," but now 50% of the time the first question you see is, "is the game woke?"

lol I actually did see people do that on the Starfield Forums two years ago, but yeah, it was a little hard to tell if they were being serious or not xD

People were pointing out that human society in Starfield was actually hyper right-wing; that the UC was fascist, the FC was ultra-libertarian and that it was ridiculous how literally everyone carried a gun at all times

Yeah, I never watch political channels on YouTube. Literally didn't know who Asmongold even was until a few months ago, when someone was like, "omg Asmongold is playing Umamusume!"

I only ever watch funny youtube shorts, fan parodies, or pure gaming channels that focus on gaming and having fun.

Yeah and even if they were legitimate complaints (not trolls), it just doesn't happen, except for once in a blue moon.

The "woke" complaints are a daily occurrence and the brigading happens semi-frequently.

The fact that you used Veilguard as an example as if the original 2009 game didn't exist and didn't have characters like Zevran and Isabela only proves my point.

Although I've got a sneaking suspicion that you've never played that game on account of being a toddler at the time.

Basically it's the convergence of two mindsets. One that games should not contain anything that one doesn't like, and two that all games must be designed to cater solely to oneself. And thus, anything people don't want in a game is now "woke". Regardless of what the nuance of that word might have been once, it is now used to describe everything that people object to. It's not the only word to be watered down to levels of utter meaningless, but it's the one that seems to get the most attention here because people have found how easy it is to get a reaction from it.
