I was going through a hard time! The frustration though! Not to worry now, I have steady internet.
I got the ban from one of these voluntary mods we used to have. One time offense, direct perm. What a joke
Bans are useful to stop repeating offenders but it is a disgusting injustice when a power tripping mod abuses this
Yes but how do we determine if the person who did it is power tripping or just doing the right thing? Ever been to a prison? Every prisoner claims they are innocent even if they have them on film holding a bloody knife showing they killed someone. So that is why it is hard to determine who is telling the truth or not. For all we know this could just be he said, she said. Is the person who got banned lying or telling the truth? We do not know. And we cannot trust anyone's words nowadays. Just look at how many scammers they are in this world.
Perm ban was just excessive and support agreed
Actions still have consequences even if you're going through a hard time. And lots of people have hard times and still manage to behave themselves. Just sayin'
I don't think there's much sympathy for bad customers.
I don't get it. I've said much worse to Support and never got anything close to what you describe. Not saying you're lying, but are you sure you're telling the full story? Because by your logic, I should have been permanently banned too. And honestly, I didn't even know permanent bans were a thing. Aren't the longest ones usually 12 months max?
Crazy here tbh.. the automated system is terrible here, but nothing we can do.
1. You weren't banned for complaining, you where banned for insulting.
2. You say you did not meant to harm anyone, but insulted nevertheless.
3. You say you had a hard time, and there will always be a next hard time. Have a plan to deal with hard times.
Learn from it and you will be fine. Not only at Steam.
I've been admin and mod for forums for many years. You have no idea how hard it is to maintain a certain "balance". While you say mods vs users, a lot of people would say mods are just protecting users from a few unruly elements. And usually there isn't a "single" event. It might start with a post deletion and a friendly warning and a request to try and stay amiable. Then it might go towards a "less friendly" warning or a cooldown "ban" of maybe a couple of days. Then maybe a bigger ban. A permanent ban is something very extreme and nobody wants to do it. But sometimes it's the only way to keep the bad apples out of the basket. It is harsh, but sometimes necessary.
