Should devs have to disclose use of AI chatbots?
Should devs, on their steam store pages, have to disclose the use of AI chatbots in their games?

I think they should.

What are your thoughts?

Wouldn't an AI chatbot be considered as use of AI in a game, which is already a requirement for disclosure?

I don't believe devs are required to be specific as to what is AI and what isn't. Most do anyway, because they know people will ask them anyway.

If you mean in the game? Yes.

If you mean like, translation for patchnotes? I've already seen many devs willfully disclosing it on their posts, so also yes.

I thought so, but there are games with AI chat bots in them not disclosing this, and the fans of said game are arguing that LLM are not the same as generative AI, so the requirement doesn't apply.

I opened a thread here, without mentioning the games, to get a discussion going with more neutral parties.

I mean literally in game. As in the NPC is literally a running chat bot that you type messages to.

Oh, then 100% yes.

Also, if you find games like that, that aren't disclosing, I recommend a report via the store page.

You can read about when it's required to be notified the game uses AI here:

It sounds like what the game uses falls in the second category of live generated ai content so if it's not disclosed you need to report it to steam.

Yes. In game, in update posts, in support messages. It should all have to be disclosed.

Well machine translated patch notes can be disclosed in the patch notes themselves. I am mostly talking about the disclaimer on the store itself.

It took Activision a few months after BO6 released for them to add the disclaimer.

So, report it via the store page.

oh i know of a game that uses AI chatbots to play. The stars in her eyes it is called. or something. Ive seen others. By steam's rules though, it is supposed to say it on the store page. As someone said above, if it does not report the store page to steam. I have done this on misleading store pages before.
