steam controller 2 battery
Does anyone know the specs on the battery? is it an internal single cell like a most controller or handhelds or is it a removable battery. this is unclear in the press I have seen.

I like my SC v1 because I can swap the bats. Is the SC v2 something like a camera battery or 18650's? or a modern phone/controller battery?

I guess my concern is the repair-ability of it and reliability of the batteries. AA or 18650's are very common though you cant control the quality. Also what type of Li-ion? is it one of the environmentally destructive kinds like cobalt. or the newer friendlier ones like Fe.

Why ditch the AA? I do believe NiCad's and NiMh's are less of an environmental impact than Li-ion's.

I found it.

Rechargable Li-polymer battery
Rate Capacity: 2178mAH
Voltage: 3.85V
limited charging: 4.39V
rated energy: 8.39Wh

Looks to have a pin connection and is removable like a Camera battery, but less easy to remove being behind the screws and the rear cover.

IMO. not horrible as long as there are replacements.

MAYBE! maybe the puck interface could be upgraded with peripherals like a battery pack for quick swap charging. here's hoping.

In one of the ads it said you can switch it for USB connected one, so even if battery dies you should be able to power it that way

USB connected defeats the purpose of wireless and gyro. Tethers suck. always have. Wavebirds were awesome, even if they had like 2 hours battery life, but atleast you could swap batteries on the fly. 360 controllers too, and eventually with their li-ion battery packs.

I am sure some clever individuals are already creating a 3d printable battery holder, a backpack, that mags onto the controller.

I read an article about the battery on the Steam controller 2:
Valve has made the lithium pack in this newer model user-replaceable: It pops out like an old cellphone battery after you open the gamepad
So it seems you can replace it at least.
