long term games worth getting into?
hey all, im 33 and lately i’ve found it really hard to stick with any one game. feels like new titles drop faster than you can even try them, and i keep ending up in this loop of buying something that looks fun, learning it for a bit, then moving on before i really get into it.

i’m looking for something i can actually settle into and is friendly for a busy lifestyle. ideally a game with real longevity, an active community around it, and a rewarding sense of progression.

not fussed about genre tbh, just looking for something that’s actually fun to play and improve in. even if it’s climbing leaderboards. bonus points if it plays nicely on the steam deck since i’m on the go a lot.

basically just want something that’s still going to feel alive six months or a year from now.

what’s been that game for you?

Sound like you're looking for something like the Sims, or farming/creative game.

Not sure what kind of gameplay you want, 2D/3D, slow/fast actions, or what.

But give me moment, I edit this post with games to suggest, maybe they hit, or miss but I suggest watch gameplay on YouTube before buying games to help you make right choice before investing into it.

-Edit-

Palworld
7 Days to die
Ark survival
Factorio
RimWorld
Dwarf Fortress
Sims series
Minecraft

This what I can think of top of my head.

If you want something you can play for a long time, try Factorio's Space Exploration mod. Playthroughs can easily last multiple thousands of hours.

There's no way I'd be able to talk you into the RPG genre. Most of those games can be hundreds of hours long. I love them ... the longer the better.

You have to know what you like and be willing to put up with it for a very long time.

I can tell you right now I have replayed games that take over 100 hours to finish if you want everything. I even take extra time just because I feel like it. It is all about loving the game you are playing.

That's all there is to it.

Fallout: New Vegas

That aside, you can play any game for as long as you like, there's always something to do even if the game itself doesn't present that, well maybe games like visual novels wouldn't exactly work that way, but most games do. I played over 10000 hours in Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow, 300 hours in BloodRayne 1 (I didn't have time anymore), these games also don't require any knowledge (sure I didn't have any).

If you find it hard to stick with one game, wouldn’t the solution be to play those games you currently have and not continue the trend of trying something new and moving onto something else?

Not long term but since you're 33yo, I highly suggest you to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
33yo is the perfect age to play it :emofdr:

Otherwise I would also say Fallout: New Vegas it's still great to this day and run well on Steam Deck

Valheim is my suggestion. By the time I finish it since I want to pace myself, the final update will push the game to 1.0 and its just a blast to play

One can just build if they want by enabling dev commands, its like a viking themed Minecraft for adults. The blood and effects from attacking mobs is fairly tame

The progress made in the game is worth it and feels rewarding. Just don't push your character too far too fast.

Games with the most longevity are still those who are either MMOS (for the social aspect) or are highly moddable and have tons of mods (for variety)

Monster Hunter World. Haven't played wilds so can't say on that.

I also have a Steam Deck, OP-and I’d say there are several games that fit your guidelines but it depends on what you’re looking for.

For Steam Deck I can personally recommend (as in, I’ve put in at least 90 hours-far more for many of these-on the Deck and can say they run well):
Baldur’s Gate 3
Divinity: Original Sin 2-Definitive Edition
No Man’s Sky
Any of the Elder Scrolls games (my preference is Morrowind, but you do have to jump through some hoops to get it running smoothly on the Deck).
Hello Kitty Island Adventure

For free live service games:
Wuthering Waves
Infinity Nikki
(Warning that both of these are gachas-and both are a little bit glitchy on Steam Deck-you sometimes have to change proton versions or switch briefly to onscreen keyboard to change areas if the default Steam Deck controls aren’t behaving)

You are 33, u have lotsa thing to do in 16hour daylight lol... games you play have to be less mechanically stressfull and just get to the meat and potaytoes. Try mmo sure its mecahnically stressfull, but just skip it lol, blue protocl is new so it has a commnuty you can grow into, to just chat and chill or do random goofy ♥♥♥♥♥
