download/update issue with Baldurs Gate3
For the last week or so I have had Steam repeatedly try to validate and download the laatest patch/update. The best it has done is get to about 94% of the install and then without any warning it is starting the whole thing again. It slows my connection and even slows my system whilst this is happening. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

This would be my guess/most likely explanation as well. OP, a good general rule is that you need twice as much free space on the drive as the game requires for install.

As mentioned above - missing/insufficient HDD/SSD space, or file system corruption.

3rd possible reason, least likely but can happen - pending (or already happened) hardware failure, such as motherboard is failing, or the disk drive is about to fail. (HDD or SSD)

Do other games you installed update fine?
Maybe a good idea to ask in Baldur's Gate 3 forums too, even if no help there, does not hurt to ask. :)

Everythong else works fine, all software I use that I have installed on that HDD has no issues. I will find and post on the game forums as well and can hopefully get some help there as well.

What internal drives do you use/have?
Please list them all.

Even if a certain drive has 1 TB free, download caching may happen on another drive.

my C drive is a 1Tb SSD with around 450 gigs free and a 2Tb HDD which has a scratch over 1Tb free

So far am up to d/l of 12.3gigs finished and up tp 84% patching done, been here before and still it failed and started from scratch. Will see how it goes this time *shrugs*

And that is where it has bombed out yet again. Should I rather uninstall and reinstall the game?
