Deleting items
I have to admit that my human nature showed itself and I (being a victim of course) grabbed all sorts of items (smileys, stickers, profile frames, and the like) at various events for my inventory on Steam. And it all piled up, but I don't have the ability to delete items that I consider unnecessary. For some reason, Valve believes that these items are permanent and that you can't delete them like a bad tattoo... I don't think it's appropriate to contact support, so how can I "clean" my inventory?

You can't. Until Valve designs a mechanism to delete or hide the unwanted items, they will remain on accounts.

So what am I supposed to do now, just regret my mistakes? Same story with my Steam username. I hate it...:sad_seagull:

Due to the sheer number of users who constantly get their accounts highjacked, Valve refuses to add a system to delete inventory items.
All it takes is users getting highjacked and their untradable/unsellable items deleted for support to get swarmed with users demanding the deleted items be restored.
Or users who regret deleting an item and spamming support to restore the items.

And only the account owner can see the account login name, so it doesn't matter what it is as only the account owner knows it.
And if you used something personal that you regret using as your login name, well basic Internet safety says not to do that.

Even a Steam account has a delete option, so it's still a mystery to me why I can't manage my inventory. Or let them give me the ability to hide items like they can with games in the library:melthink:

With games, you cannot permanently remove one from your library unless you refund it.
So a scammer who has highjacked your account can't get anything out of that if the account is outside the refund period for the game.
With items, if they can't sell or trade it away for their own gain, they will delete it to leave nothing behind.

So, if users can learn to not use scam sites and stop falling for obvious phishing scams, then maybe Valve will think about it.

Users need to learn to keep their accounts secure first.

It's an obvious missing feature. It'll probably get added eventually.

Account deletion isn't instant. I think it takes 30 days from when it's initiated to actually take affect. And anytime during those 30 days, someone can log into the account and cancel it.
