A while ago Misery, a post apocalyptic game with a similar setting to stalker, the same setting 10s or hundreds of games have, released on steam. I noticed today the dev put out a post saying you can no longer buy the game because GSC has submitted a DMCA claim against them for infringing on their IP.

This is insane, giving nintendo vibes imo. Going after someone because you can knowing they can't fight back

They can fight back as there is a dispute system for false dmca claims but this is something they have to do on their end with legal options.

I've played for a while, and have yet to see anything that resembles anything from the stalker games other than stuff based of real life objects such as the gear or weapons. Any examples of the stolen assets or you just saying that

GSC don't usually go after people this way. Hell Anomaly was more popular than their core game and they never went out of their way to shut it down regardless of the number of assets lifted.

GSC don't look overprotective of their ip in the slightest unlike others.

My spider senses are tingling. Something tells me the misery Devs ain't being 100% truthful here.

Or maybe, just maybe, someone at GSC had a very rough day and should have made decisions.

I've seen some speculative reasons and one that has gone under the radar and seems more credible than others is regarding some stolen campfire music. It's still quite a significant step by GSC so if this is the case, then one can only assume they failed to remove it previous on request. I have also seen there may be some political tensions behind the scenes so maybe GSC are happy to stick the knife in.

We'll have to wait and see what happens next.

Does it say what the DMCA claimed? Because we don't know anything, pretty sure they wouldn't issue DMCA just because it's "post apo" game.

To me it sounds like OP is either purposely omitting that info, or is only doing this for troll posting.

In the post the dev states it's from GSC

"In their claim, they state that MISERY infringes on their IP and that players' reviews mention S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which means it hurts their interests.

This is absolutely untrue, and we will fight back to reinstate MISERY on Steam."

Dev also goes on to say they think it's just a misunderstanding and hopes to correct it, but it seems to be either directly from GCS, or an employee of theirs who knew they could strike it. What's weird is it's only steam side with no direct communication from anyone representing GSC, just the email the dev got from steam, that being the notification the store page had been taken down for DMCA reasoning
