So UK Gov has killed my games
it says this rubbish on out i try to down load
Under the UK Online Safety Act, Valve is required to verify that you are 18 or older before accessing mature sexual content. If you wish to do so, please add a valid UK credit card to your account and afterwards update the Mature Content Preferences.

Think its time say buy to this place now.

Acknowledging the reality of the situation (the Govt did this, Steam has to follow national laws, you're stuck with it) is different from "defending" it.



The thing to do is complain to Steam so that they add more of the 'govt approved' verification options, so people without CCs can do it.

This should not be thing on any platform. Why does the goverment have to do a parents job for them?

I don't live in the UK. And even if I did, It would not give them my information. I buy my games from a third party seller or use Steam gift card. I don't have a credit card, And I most likely never will. But i'm already buying less and less on Steam, and buy more from GOG. DRM free is the future of gaming.

Nobody is asking for your ID currently, Valve wants you to verify using a credit card (currently), which basically uses the same details as the debit card folks use and store online. The only difference between one and the other is one you must be over 18 to own.

You can call us out in the UK but please make sure all the facts you're told are correct. Please don';t listen to all the misinformation, lies and theories being spread around by people who don't know what they're talking about or have other ulterior motives.

The UK is not killing games, it is not against porn, it is not trying to stop people looking at or buying porn. It just wants to stop minors from having easy access to such content online.

Yes it sucks people can't verify themselves at the moment without a credit card and hopefully in the future there may be other ways but until then people have either got to stop complaining because they can't get their fix or comply with the law and get their fix.

Let me ask you this... You can either restrict porn and no minors see it but people must prove their age or you do not restrict it and allow minors to see it, which side of the fence are you sitting on?

Its just a matter of time Until they ask your ID. It will not end with a credit card only.

Its a parents job to check on their childeren not the goverment. If I want to look for porn, I can do that without needing an ID or credit card. Its not a crime to look at porn.
But some companies and goverments think it is, and that's why I hate where things are going.
They're stripping people's rights away, what they can and cannot do it.

You can still access all your games you already have bought as this is only being able to view that type of content unless you verify your age as your government requires now.

My Gov can eat S@@t and die no way i,m putting any my info like this on line and down side is i have no Credit card or any plans getting one...

Complain to your government.
Valve has to follow the laws of a country to operate Steam in that country.

Nothing has been killed other than the ease for minors to view dodgy cartoon porn. The same goes for in real life stores, they cannot view it or buy it without proving their age and yet the porn industry hasn't been killed but it's killed your games. :lol: So, many drama queens these days...

While I agree, it's also obviously not their intention. What they are doing is horrible, but reducing pr0n consumption is just a positive side effect of it. There need to be radical changes for the better in the UK. Privacy is one thing but cutting down on(ideally removing) pr0n games from circulation is also welcomed.

Don't forget that if it was up to them they would go much further than just requiring you to verify to view 18+ content.
