- the company selling it dies
- licensing expires
- it is no longer viable to run servers it relies on
- your sins have become so widely known that even game publishers must punish you
And it's not up to Steam to dictate whether games are listed on the Store or not. Valve doesn't own those games.
If those are "online-only"... well... for a time. Gamers were screaming from the rooftops that buying into these was a bad idea. People still did it anyway. Can't really complain when you are expected to know that an online game will eventually die.
A fate quite common in MMOs. And all the money spent is gone from the moment the switch is flicked off. And all of it is absolutely legal because there is no law that forces a company to support an unviable product or to support it indefinately.
London 2012 was likely licensing.
The crew being retired for The Crew 2 makes sense. TC2 was also $1 a while ago, they gave some good vehicles etc during that time too.
Delisted games, if you have it you can download it; it's still in your library. I still have The Avengers as I got it before being delisted.
Yes via account notification
As you probably did not know, The Crew is an online only game, and its servers went offline.
So, nobody can play it now, whatever gimmicks/gymnastics they decide to try. :)
Only the newer The Crew 2 can be played.
(And yes, not Steam's fault, that part is correct.)
And still, there isn't anything more Steam can do. I game could be pulled from the store right now and Steam can't do anything about it.
