Goodbye Xbox And Playstation, It Was Nice Knowing You.
I don't think people really understand how much trouble Xbox and Playstation are in right now. The Steam Deck was such a success, Valve decided to go ahead and create a PC version of a freaking console. Whether you want to call the Steam Machine a PC or console, it can function as both depending on your desire.

And I know some people out there have concerns or complaints regarding the specs, when that doesn't really matter much at all with the way this thing has going for it. The Steam Machine doesn't have to be the most powerful PC/console on the market and that's okay. It doesn't matter if Xbox releases a next generation Xbox console to compete, because they don't have the leverage and advantages like Valve has. Whose to say that Valve can't release a more powerful, stronger console in the future to compete with whatever the next gen Xbox console? I really don't think Xbox can compete with Valve. Xbox is already having a hard time trying to compete with Playstation. Do you really think they can compete with Valve? Valve entering the console market can easily put Xbox out of business. There is no doubt in my mind. Xbox better get their act together and I don't think a "next gen" console is going to be enough to save them unless they make a 180.

Playstation is in the same boat as Xbox too. This is going to affect Sony/Playstation too just as much as Xbox. But I think the case for Xbox is much more severe than Playstation.

We know for a fact that the next Xbox is going to be at least around $1200 according to rumors. That is a massive price increase, nearing gaming PC price levels which at point, is a Xbox console even worth considering if you are going to spend that much?

I believe this is the most important news in gaming history in the last 10 years. Depending on the price of the Steam Machine, this could easily shift the demographic of gamers. Steam is about to have a lot of new members if Valve continues this path.

That's just my two cents on it.

Bottom line: If Playstation and Xbox can't pull a miracle, they're going to be the next SEGA. This is the beginning of the end for them.

Right, well i'm a huge Xbox Fan, but i am it looks like in all likelihood going to buy the new Steam Console.

I think 'pricing" may be key, being the next Xbox as well may have access to Steam.

And for those like me that my mass library is on Xbox, has to look at prices. If you're correct in a 1200 price tag for Xbox, that may be a couple bridges too far for console gamers.

But i'm rooting for the new Steam Console, have been requesting it for years, and wish the best of luck for we Gamers, Steam and Mr Newell :steamhappy:

I don't think the tech industry really is trying at this point. It's a long discussion, I don't want to dive into, but the Steam Machine couldn't come at a better time. Hopefully Steam will do cell phones next.

I love the steam deck and hope their steam box is successful.
It's nice to support Steam instead of MS, Nintendo, and Sony all the time.

It seems like Valve is getting a lot more serious with gaming and expanding their ecosystem. Should of seen this coming when Valve announced the Steam Deck. At this point anything is a possibility.

Valve: Need VR? Done
Need a portable handheld console? There you go buddy.
Need a gaming console and PC in one? Enjoy.
Need a new controller? You got it.

A Steam cellphone made by Valve is not really a far stretch. It's going to be very interesting in the next few years for Valve.

They been doing that for awhile. Ge Force Now partnerships, their controller support interface night and day as compared to what it used to be. Then the Steam Deck.

They been expanding from sole PC gaming for awhile.

They can't seem to get sports on the platform though. That may keep those consolers from moving to Steam entirely. As well as Game Pass.

I don't think you can compare that to actually releasing a major product. Companies make partnerships all the time and nobody cares. Steam is still known as just some store that sells PC games. The fact that Valve is releasing their own gaming consoles/PC to compete against Xbox and Playstation changes everything.

This is not the same as some partnership.

The point being, they've been trying to break into the console market. Why do you think they've vastly improved controller support? Or the hand helds with the Steam Deck?

Or Ge Force Now we get on Xbox and therefore access to Steam?

Why do we think "crossplay' has been so popular?

In fact, i wouldn't be surprised if they offer Game Pass on the new Steam Console or access too it.

It just seems "exclusivity" is no longer the case anymore as much as "access" is.

And the ones who can give more gamers access to more games will succeed.

Not to mention a store front to tie all of those in.
Does the Steam Deck / Box / Frame have a thriving physical market both first and second hand, with shops offering decent reductions on over-inflated RRPs? No, didn't think so. At least in my region, PlayStation will be fine. Xbox won't. but that's Bill Gate's fault.

Bill Gates isn't involved with Microsoft as he used to be. In fact, he doesn't even own it anymore. You can't blame him for this.

Playstation and Xbox will go back to exclusivity if they think this will cause them a problem. Nintendo's business model is all about exclusivity and they're doing fine.

Actually, yes I can. His actions 24 odd years ago are solely why Xbox failed in Japan. The result to this day is that 99% of stores selling games won't stock anything Xbox. It's also why less than five games have physical releases a year in the region. Look it up.
Meanwhile, over on the Hardware forum. . . "this thing sucks, why would anyone want one?"

Anyway - until Steam has ads on national TV/on billboards/in print/etc - i.e, some sort of recognition with Joe Average Consumer, outside "PC gamers" - they really aren't competing with/replacing 'the consoles'. /meh

I've heard this argument so many times. They don't need to do stuff like that. You can reach a bigger audience on social media than some random billboard on some random highway.

Ever heard of Amazon? Netflix? YouTube? Ebay? Yeah you don't really see them too much irl, right? But everyone and their pet gold fish has heard of them.

Not saying that doing those things would be a bad idea, but it's just not needed.

These things will advertise themselves once they hit the living rooms across the world.
steammachine is garbage, you can easily build one that's comparable or better in a mini itx case like the NR200 and get a better result, it won't even be able to run popular games like battlefield, apex legends, Cod, Arc Raiders, or Fortnite
