I think 'pricing" may be key, being the next Xbox as well may have access to Steam.
And for those like me that my mass library is on Xbox, has to look at prices. If you're correct in a 1200 price tag for Xbox, that may be a couple bridges too far for console gamers.
But i'm rooting for the new Steam Console, have been requesting it for years, and wish the best of luck for we Gamers, Steam and Mr Newell
It's nice to support Steam instead of MS, Nintendo, and Sony all the time.
Valve: Need VR? Done
Need a portable handheld console? There you go buddy.
Need a gaming console and PC in one? Enjoy.
Need a new controller? You got it.
A Steam cellphone made by Valve is not really a far stretch. It's going to be very interesting in the next few years for Valve.
They been doing that for awhile. Ge Force Now partnerships, their controller support interface night and day as compared to what it used to be. Then the Steam Deck.
They been expanding from sole PC gaming for awhile.
They can't seem to get sports on the platform though. That may keep those consolers from moving to Steam entirely. As well as Game Pass.
This is not the same as some partnership.
The point being, they've been trying to break into the console market. Why do you think they've vastly improved controller support? Or the hand helds with the Steam Deck?
Or Ge Force Now we get on Xbox and therefore access to Steam?
Why do we think "crossplay' has been so popular?
In fact, i wouldn't be surprised if they offer Game Pass on the new Steam Console or access too it.
It just seems "exclusivity" is no longer the case anymore as much as "access" is.
And the ones who can give more gamers access to more games will succeed.
Not to mention a store front to tie all of those in.
Actually, yes I can. His actions 24 odd years ago are solely why Xbox failed in Japan. The result to this day is that 99% of stores selling games won't stock anything Xbox. It's also why less than five games have physical releases a year in the region. Look it up.
Anyway - until Steam has ads on national TV/on billboards/in print/etc - i.e, some sort of recognition with Joe Average Consumer, outside "PC gamers" - they really aren't competing with/replacing 'the consoles'. /meh
Ever heard of Amazon? Netflix? YouTube? Ebay? Yeah you don't really see them too much irl, right? But everyone and their pet gold fish has heard of them.
Not saying that doing those things would be a bad idea, but it's just not needed.
These things will advertise themselves once they hit the living rooms across the world.
