I misspoke on the specs for the ram, but still it's going to cost about the same as an entry level gaming pc
https://www.vice.com/en/article/steam-machine-price-range-may-have-leaked-and-its-not-cheap/
why would I do that when I can just build my own PC that's not only specced better, but is actually upgradeable?
I literally built myself a box PC as an HTPC this year
I dunno if you're just being sarcastic to counter me, but I'd call this a straw man.
The cost of the steam machine is going to make it virtually outdated compared to modern consoles, and that new ones are coming out soon. Especially given its specs.
That article doesn't make any claims about what the price is, it just lists a bunch of numbers for what it could be. Did you read the article before you linked to it?
And you also didn't explain why you think the Steam Machine is targeted at non-gamers.
Other than that, it's pure gossip.
Lmfao so I need to actually be running a company to have a say? Great, in that case I'll just be happy no matter what! The point of capitalism that products have to be competitive in order to win over buyers, I don't owe Valve my praise just because they came up with an idea.
Want to actually win? Use better specs, and price it more competitively with consoles
Even though it's literally a quote from them saying it's going to be priced like a PC, meaning $700-$800 minimum
I have a 1050ti with a 6700k i7, I am going to buy a steam machine so I can keep my old computer for utility and use the Steam machine for gaming. Seems like a fantastic deal to me. See how pointless your thread is?
Y'all care way too much about the success of a company you don't work for.
So you're angry that Valve isn't going to sell their computer for less than the computer costs to produce?
It's a computer. You aren't locked into buying stuff from Steam with it, and they don't need you to buy it in order to buy stuff from Steam. None of the reasons for making it a loss leader like actual vendor-locked-in game consoles apply. It's a computer, so it will be priced like a computer.
You're not making much sense, I'm making a claim about Valve's business folly and you're trying to discredit me based off your own bias.
Congratulations on your decision to buy the machine, but you would be wasting money because you can build a much better mini itx rig for the price of what it comes out for, ergo you'll be supporting poor business maneuvering.
