Valve is one of the most overrated companies of all time

Seriously I don't understand the level of glazing people do for them. Their hardware release was hardly anything special, they announce a mid-looking VR headset that will probably be DoA due to the quest 3 being cheaper when it releases, a poorly specced PC that's somehow going to bring in people to PC gaming and yet cost more than a console? The index was a great headset and all, I still have it, and their latest VR headset looks like a cheap knock off of the Apple Vision except without some of the features leading the way for VR.

Meanwhile they absolutely refuse to continue their beloved half life franchise, leaving many fans wanting. I get it, they aren't a game dev anymore, but you kind of do owe your fans a conclusion, especially after changing the ending in one of their released games.

Recently they started moderating so aggressively now as if their employees can't handle any sort of criticism of games or franchises, and thus anyone who's flagged as bad by them they will hand out bans for the smallest deviation from the rules, while others are allowed to openly throw slurs at people. Source: I've reported more than a few posts with slurs and absolutely nothing was done.

I hope these hardware releases bomb or at least turn out to be even more mid than what they look like so that people come to Earth on this bombastically overconfident company, and maybe they will start being more accountable to their customers.

why would I do that when I can just build my own PC that's not only specced better, but is actually upgradeable?

I literally built myself a box PC as an HTPC this year

I dunno if you're just being sarcastic to counter me, but I'd call this a straw man.

The cost of the steam machine is going to make it virtually outdated compared to modern consoles, and that new ones are coming out soon. Especially given its specs.

That article doesn't make any claims about what the price is, it just lists a bunch of numbers for what it could be. Did you read the article before you linked to it?

And you also didn't explain why you think the Steam Machine is targeted at non-gamers.

However, LTT revealed that the Steam Machine will be priced like a PC, not a traditional gaming console. “Valve wasn’t able to give any specific numbers due to rapidly evolving market conditions. They did give me one hint, though. They said that while they expect it to be very competitively priced with a PC, that it will be priced like a PC. Rather than like a console with games subsidizing the upfront hardware price.”

Other than that, it's pure gossip.

Even though it's literally a quote from them saying it's going to be priced like a PC, meaning $700-$800 minimum

Yeah you're right about how capitalism and competitiveness works with buisnesses. You also forgot you're not the only person making purchase. You're a single person, trying to convince strangers instead of people within your own circles to do something. Google the word grassroots before you get on your soap box again.

I have a 1050ti with a 6700k i7, I am going to buy a steam machine so I can keep my old computer for utility and use the Steam machine for gaming. Seems like a fantastic deal to me. See how pointless your thread is?

So you're angry that Valve isn't going to sell their computer for less than the computer costs to produce?

It's a computer. You aren't locked into buying stuff from Steam with it, and they don't need you to buy it in order to buy stuff from Steam. None of the reasons for making it a loss leader like actual vendor-locked-in game consoles apply. It's a computer, so it will be priced like a computer.

You're not making much sense, I'm making a claim about Valve's business folly and you're trying to discredit me based off your own bias.

Congratulations on your decision to buy the machine, but you would be wasting money because you can build a much better mini itx rig for the price of what it comes out for, ergo you'll be supporting poor business maneuvering.
