Steam frame disaster
This announcement is a disaster. The headset is barely better than a Quest 3, and the controllers are terrible, supposedly because they can also be used as regular PC gamepads… But who plays VR to hold a PC controller split in two? It’s complete nonsense!

If the price goes above €500, they’re going to crash hard, especially since the Quest 4 was delayed specifically to anticipate the release of the Valve Index 2, the so-called “Steam Frame 💩.”
The Quest 4 will likely be offered around the current price of the Quest 3 and will be far better in quality. Sticking with an LCD panel for the Steam Frame is already an absurd choice.

Half-Life: Alyx is no longer even playable with these controllers because they don't fit in an open hand. Valve isn't just shooting itself in the foot, it's cutting off its own legs.

This is not the successor to the Index.

There is an optional accessory pack with straps.

I haven't seen any videos where the controllers were equipped with an accessory, and it seems to me that these controllers are intended as replacements for the knukle valve index controllers, as everything has been out of stock in Europe for over 18 months.

I've seen precisely one video about the frame, and it covered the accessory pack and the fact that they seem to be able to fit open hand use.
I think calling 'disaster' this early is a bit melodramatic - especially as many of the folks inside the industry, who deal with this stuff on a professional level, seem to think that the Steam Frame is a very promising bit of kit.
The good news is, no one's going to force you to buy it. Stick to your preferred headset and controllers.

If we compare the Valve Index's release against its competitors to the Steamframe's current performance against the competition, then yes, for me it's a disaster. What does the Steamframe offer that others don't? The Quest 4 is coming out for a ridiculously low price of $500, and you'll get better than an $800 Steamframe.

Source? Is it "trust me, bruh" or do you have an actual source?
I'm still going to get a Steam Frame no matter what the price is and I'll be paying a lot less than a Quest 4 for it. :spazwinky:

This is just a personal estimate, but we'll talk about it again when the official prices are announced. But considering the price of a simple little portal console like the Steam Deck, what can you expect?

The meta stuff has one major flaw.
You are forced to use a meta account which shares all your data with Facebook.

Both are most certainly going to be more than a 1000 USD in my region, so I'll be sticking with my PSVR2. It's been my best headset to date. So glad I snagged a PC adaptor before the scalpers took them all.

It seems to me that you're set on buying the magical mythical quest 4, if it ever arrives - so why do you even care about the Frame?
'This unreleased device I seem to know very little about is (in my mind) worse and more expensive than another unreleased device (which *might* arrive more than a year after the first device), and which I also know nothing about (including whether it is more or less expensive), so I must tell *everyone* how bad the first device is!' - that seems like an odd stance to take.

but hey, you do what makes you happy. If and when Meta deigns to release the Quest 4, and demand your soul for using it, I'm sure all the misplaced anger you have for a system you have no intention of buying will make it somehow so much better.

Enjoy 'being right' for a year or two, and feeling superior to all those people suffering (enjoying) their disastrous (perfectly functional) Frame devices.

We're all well aware that your whole post is a wild overreaction based on assumptions and incomplete information. And we're all aware of the phenomena where people see something and they're not immediately impressed and sold on, so they tend to assume no one else is because a lot of people seem to think they're John Q. Everygamer.

You pick any product that's ever been released, even better if it was wildly successful, and you can find a million comments before release about how awful it is, doomed to failure, suggestions to make it "better" or whatever. And after the dust settles a lot of people's opinions were completely wrong. So... the lesson might be, don't overreact, wait and see.

Valve's new hardware might be successful, it might break even, it might fail. You might guess on an outcome, but you're just gonna have to wait and see if your guesses are correct.

I would get it even if it wasn't better than a Quest 3 just so I could avoid Meta's nonsense.
Nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about the quest except zucc's slaves, Quest 2 is the worst piece of technology i've ever had the misfortune of using its not even close.
Steam Frame is the only relevant current gen headset since HTC went full ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and refuses to make something fairly priced and SteamVR native anymore.
