Well obviously, that's the whole point of my post. It's bull tbh, i cant even apply for a credit card, neither can a large amount of UK citizens, and out of those that can, most wont. Making that mandatory to access certain games, many of which shouldnt even have this stupid restriction applied to, is downright idiotic if not simply lazy.
They can keep the CC verification for all i care, i, along with countless other UK steam users, just want an alternative that can actually be feasible.
You asked if it would change:
I gave you your answer. If it was so obvious, why did you ask the question?
Now, given that the alternatives all require you to hand off HIGHLY personal information to third parties -- third parties that have proven they cannot be trusted with that information -- can you not see why Valve don't want to go that route?
If there is truly a problem with the majority of UK adults not being able to get credit cards then you take that up with your banking ombudsman. No one outside the UK can fix that problem for you.
Pretty sure many other online stores do the same or in a limited fashion.
Well, that's not Steam's problem.
Blame your government for creating the requirements to age verify to begin with.
Steam is simply picking the quickest and easiest way for them to abide by UK law.
Valve has already shown they have no intention or interest in dealing with government IDs to age verify users.
Look at German users, the German government only accepts government IDs to age verify and Valve does not want to be responsible for that level of private info from users.
And your account age is not a legally recognized way to verify your age.
Granted, still disagree with the policy but it is what it is I guess.
Also, I’m very aware that account age doesn’t mean actual age, that’s never really a point I made but okay.
