when i switched to playing Beat Saber on the Quest 2 i was stunned at how much better it was all around. faster, more reliable, never losing accuracy no matter how long i play. right away i got high scores on songs in Expert+ mode that was never possible for me on the Index because the tracking was simply too slow to keep up apparently. i cant believe i was torturing myself for so long playing it with the Index. however i do miss the superior audio quality of the Index.
anyway that's just been my experience with it all. very happy with most everything i'm seeing with the Frame today.
That's not been my experience with Index tracking at all! For me it has been extremely accurate and consistent (so long as I remember to close the window blinds). I have done many multiple hour sessions with zero issues and I have not calibrated or tinkered with my base stations/tracking in probably a year at this point. For me it has been perfectly on point when it comes to intense games like Beat Saber and Gorn/Gorn 2.
And in fact my brief experience with quest 2 (my friend's) I was unimpressed. While tracking quality was good when controllers were in front of me, when my hands went behind me (winding up for a beat saber swing, for example) or I did some remotely erratic movement (like playing beat saber generally) the tracking quality really degraded. I was still impressed that this didn't require any set up or mounted hardware, but nevertheless the experience was sub-par, especially compared to my usual Index experience.
I don't know if you still have your index, but there are probably some issues with your room that caused your tracking woes. Reflective surfaces and base stations moving (not tightening the wall mount and whacking a mounting pole) have been the main issues for me, and once fixed my setup has been no exaggeration rock solid.
i still have it but i only have one working controller at the moment and also my current wire tether is pretty messed up/barely working. went through two left controllers and two wire tethers in less than 2 years.
-my base stations are both mounted to the wall in my living room in what should have been very ideal locations given the instructions. maybe there is reflectivity issues like you're saying.. but the stations never got knocked or moved. i even bought a 3rd base station to try to increase tracking quality but i did not notice any difference.
between my tracking woes and the extreme delicacy of the hardware it's just been a very bad experience all around for me.
