It has to be a credit card sadly. A debit card is not a credit card.

Debit cards are not permitted for age verification by UK rules.

For UK users, this opt-in process requires age verification. Your UK Steam user account is considered age verified for as long as a valid credit card is stored on the account.

Hello,

As we've mentioned, we do not offer any other alternatives.

Credit card ownership is the only path we can provide for age verification under the OSA.

If there's anything unrelated we can help with, please let us know.

Strange, if one is 22 years old and uses a debit card, why is that not proof enough!?

Or do they want you to prove you are old enough, but without knowing the exact age you are/have?
(In order to "protect your identity" i.e. GDPR and other such bullcrap)

Because you can get a debit card at 6 years old in the UK. It's not a form of identifying age but a credit card you have to be 18.
