UK OSA - Age verification needs modification and other methods.
Yes, I'm over 18. Well over.

Yes, I have a credit card.

No, I'm not adding it to my account. I don't want it stored in case of hacks etc.

I've already bought several 18+ games using my PayPal account, which you also have to be 18+ to have, just like a credit card. That should be more than enough proof, and my account should automatically be marked as over 18.

Yesterday, I verified my age on my Xbox account. They offer the ability to verify via your mobile number (which didn't work for me), and also by credit card... but they don't store your card, they simply charge 30p to it and then refund it, and you're done. They use the third-party company Yoti.

We should absolutely be able to remove the card details after verification - there's no need for them to be retained permanently.

1) Age assurance methods – which include age verification, age estimation or a combination of both – must be ‘highly effective’ at correctly determining whether a particular user is a child.

2) They include: open banking, photo ID matching, facial age estimation, mobile network operator age checks, credit card checks, digital identity services and email-based age estimation;

Zero about the age of an account.

my memories a bit #### but didnt newgrounds get away with account age being a way of age verification? like, no ones gonna make an account somewhere at the ripe old age of 6, right?

I didn't say anything about the age of my account, or using that as a means of verification.

This is honestly ridiculous, I've got a payment method and always have done, but it's a debit not a credit card, I don't even own a credit card so there's nothing I can do!?

Last minute botch job BS censoring the internet - These people are aware that children have parents and parents have a multitude of tools to prevent adult content right? Probably no

What did you expect support to do? Support is not Valve but a 3rd party company.

They have the same info from Valve on the system that you do. They can’t change, remove, or add methods to it.

What did you expect support to do? Support is not Valve but a 3rd party company.

They have the same info from Valve on the system that you do. They can’t change, remove, or add methods to it.
I expect them to take my warnings seriously of consequences if they do not add other forms of age verification and they could be potentially be breaking the law in the UK under the reasonable adjustment clause of the Equality Act 2010

True but it doesn't change the fact Valve knew this was coming and the way they have responded has shafted lots of people.

How is the government going to keep tabs on people when the age verification system is not run by the government?

In Steams case, the age verification is carried out by the banks when you apply for a credit card. It's always been that way. Nothing has changed.

True but it doesn't change the fact Valve knew this was coming and the way they have responded has shafted lots of people.
Probably fewer than you think. Keep in mind they know how many brits have their credit card stored on their accounts already...I'm betting that percentage is waaaaay higher than many are willing to acknowledge.

The people salty about it are just particularly loud about it.

From what people have been saying, there is nothing to stop you placing a credit card on the account, buying the game and installing it, then removing the card. It will only stop you accessing forums. And if you want to access a forum you could temporarily enter the card number again.

I do not own a credit card nor do i want one. How am i supposed to verify on here my account is 18 years old. I am not getting a credit card just to use steam and play games i have already purchased
