Ironically you get Steam Points for purchasing games..

Steam Points are only for the points shop and for giving awards on user generated content (UGC), buying games is not part of it and i also doubt, game developers would support such a thing.

Its not unheard of to get some sort of "credit" to buy a product with via buying a lot more of said or similar product(s) with actual money. Emphasis on "a lot more", however; in all cases I'm aware of, the ratio is always very far away from 1:1.

That said, indeed Valve has opted not to do this with Steam right now.

Steam points have always been worthless. Steam go out of their way to make sure you understand they are worth nothing. It is an engagement mechanic and if you deluded yourself into thinking otherwise... That's both on you and their non disclosed intended goal!

You can't buy games with Steam Points.

Imagine what these forums would be like if you could buy games with points.. its a mess already with bot points farmers..

Lol, I remember thinking I could do this like how they had the points for xbox 360 the first time I started using and buying my games on steam. As everyone says though you can only purchase cosmetic stuff for your steam profile or level up your account buy putting points into the seasonal badges.
