Yes absolutely.

The proper question is not this. But whether they would survive if they sold the company and made it a PUBLIC company with shareholders.

If this company has Gabe Newell leave his shares to his kin, there'll be no change to the adverse actually.

And no the prices won't go up because Valve do not set the prices for games they don't own - they CANNOT.

Valve hasn't had control on pricing other than for their own games for over a decade. They gave up dictating prices (which they only did for indies, anyway).

Gabe hasn't really been hooked in with steam for years now, Yes he's the defacto CEO but CEO's don't really do anything these days..

Gabe's not walking through Valve HQ directing the employees on what to work on. He's not setting an agenda for everyone to follow. He might weigh in on projects and give advice where needed, but it's not like he's sitting there calling someone up and saying "hey, I think we need to take all those Store links on the left side of the page and put them into an expandable ribbon along the top. Let's get some people to work on that."

Valve will be fine after Gabe is gone.

He's busy buying super Yachts and the companies that make them.

Don't forget his Starfish Neuroscience company which is working on neural interfaces and he also has his marine research organization, Inkfish. But I guess people don't care about those as they're not a status of wealth they can throw back and forth at him when they get moderated or don't like something on Steam.

Why is he buying starfish and Inkfish?

I mean Gabe hasn't been directly involved in Valve for years now. He's focusing on his charities and deep sea exploration and his neural chips.

So it looks like they do fine

Why is he buying starfish and Inkfish?

He isn't buying them, he founded them and Inkfish is one of the largest charities in the world devoted to ocean research. He's involved in quite a lot of charity with his money.

You neglected to mention most of the yacht's he bought serves as part of his charity housing the staff and equipment for inkfish which is a charity that explores and researches the ocean. As does the single yacht company he bought.

With his focus on deep sea research it was easier for him to buy the company, then custom order what he needed for the charity.

The man likes boats, whatever he does with them.

When and if Valve goes public it will inevitably change forever, take the Steam Deck for example, a public Valve with shareholders to feed, you'd be looking at double the price it is now.
It will likely be much worse.
Under Gabe's rule Steam has been a pretty stable company
