What happends if someone buys a game you scheduled a gift for?

Hey hey!, I've decided to buy my dad's christmas present early since the game i wanted to gift him happends to be a on sale. But what'd happen if he buys it before my scheduled gift arrives?

very late but you could always just say "hey, don't try to buy any steam games right now" like a few days beforehand. tell him to save his money for other treats like, i dunno, an extra dessert if you guys go out to dinner for his birthday.
also happy very late and very early birthday to him
