I was really looking forward to this game, but the new engine and game style just don't work. I played for about 30 mins and was almost in tears. Now I know how Fallout fans must feel with 76!! so disappointed. :(

It's the way the character runs forward then eventually turns the way you want far too late, that I find annoying as hell!

What gets me is that's actually EASIER to code the character moving instantly in the direction you want. Yes, the annoying movement is actually coded in!

Shockingly bad, which is a real shame as there's lot of loving detail gone into the parts I painfully played.

I dont understand why every developer sooner or later goes for 3d. I cant think of a single adventure where the 3d change was good, there are a dozens of examples where it was really bad: Black mirror, syberia, broken sword, monkey island 4, grim fandango, darkness within 2.........

Have to agree on the controls. As much as I liked the demo (I think the story will be very interesting), I really struggled with the controls at times. And I wouldn't have needed 3D. It makes controlling the character and finding your way around really difficult at times - more difficult than necessary. I wonder how this game will play with just point and click.

IMHO, the 3Dness is not the problem, it's that they appeared to have gone out of their way to make character move so oddly is the problem!!

Does it really look so bad if a character faces the right direction immediately? Hell no, it's NEVER a problem, and hasn't been for thousands of third and first person AAA games for years and years. Sorry, but sometimes..*grrr* :)

I think you did move left/right with the mouse, but that actually turns the camera which eventually changes what direction moving forward is. For a direct reaction you should use A/D to walk left/right and control the camera on top of that. That basically allows to look around a bit while moving into a specific direction.
If you don't want to do both, you can also press Right Shift to have camera automatically locked to the character movement.

If the camera is facing the church doorway, but the character is facing right.
Then I press 'W' to move forward. I expect the character to move the way I'm looking .i.e. in the church.
Please make him move like ALL other games on the market, he should move in the direction the camera is facing.

At least make it corrrespond to the direction I'm pressing- in some way or another!

But he doesn't - which is why people are having problems navigating through doorways etc. He wanders off to the right then slowly circles round. It's really annoying.
The right-shift mechanic is also a really horrible way of controlling a character - it feels completely restricted.

You are clearly wrong, there are enough third person games with such a contol sheme. Making it different would actually be restrictive because you couldn't move the camera freely from your movement direction and therefore couldn't look around in the scenery while moving somewhere.

And btw I can handle walking straight into doorways perfectly fine.

Well done you. You appear to on your own though. The generally idea is that you spin the camera - look at stuff, point where want to go and move forward. Nothing more complex please.

It plays fine with gamepad, i guess it was designed for controller which is actually shocking for an adventure game. I agree it's almost unplayable with m/k. But i like the graphics/atmosphere and the story will be great as always.
Don't jump into negative conclusions, i am sure the developer will fix this m/k mess.

That's because there is no problem with the mouse and keyboard controls if you are capable of using keyboard A/D for moving left/right.

So i suppose this explains why the demo has been taken down. So sad, the original game was a real treat. :steamsad:
