Need help with WASD movement

Hi all.....after 3 tries, i gave up for the night. I am just getting into the church and meeting the new vicar. I seem to have a problem using the WASD movement controls to move Nigel around. How do I make him turn around and walk to the place i want him to? When I want him to go straight, he seems to turn and walk into the nearest corner...
I really am digging the game..i would just like to play it more.

I'm walking Nigel around with my right-click button on the mouse only. lol. Yesterday that didn't work. Of course I can't zoom now - but whatever. The game is working much better for me today than yesterday!

Game definitely runs better in movement if you use the XBox controller for Windows.

I find the controls really annoying, it's as if the dev was more concerned with how it looks than how it plays! If you look at AAA games you'll see that the character moves in the expected direction very quickly. NOT run forward a little then turn around! - that's just silly and annoying.
