This is intentional - if you want to farm exotic matter, one of the rarest and most valuable materials, it's not going to be easy (I have seen people set up effective exotic matter farms with farmer bots, but it requires a lot of resources to be efficient - they get infinite exotic matter, but the amount of effort put into setting it up balances that). But, I don't think this is a problem, as that is only one way to get exotic matter - you can also get it by fighting enemy ships and all late game planets have a good supply mining too.

Wrong , Wyrm pens can be auto collected using farmer bots... Thus a 'reliable Uranium source' id very easy to get once you have that figured out....

You can also buy exotic matter at 60 spirit per dose. This does make sense, as it IS magical.
