I understand that it was their primary way of making money back in the day, but with time-limited events, special bundles, voice packs, costumes, and so forth, there's not really a reason anymore for this. Even hitting EVERY (other) daily time skip just doesn't net nearly enough funds for basically anything except the first 10 or so levels for any guy past Sven.
It's frustrating to be maxed out as much as the game allows, and even if you do the developer-approved purchase of boosts/time-skips at max, it STILL isn't enough to get more than a few levels at best. I haven't purchased anything from their shop in years at this point because frankly, I don't think it's worth it anymore. It's impossible to progress, and that impossibility DRAMATICALLY decreases my willingness to buy anything. I have over 500 gems and 187 useless empty time slots, gained from daily freebies and level ups, and I just stare at them, wondering when, if ever, they'd ever be useful.
As it stands, though, I'll continue to do freebies, slowly working my way through what I can, but motivation to even engage with the game beyond that is basically 0. The developers somehow alienated their die-hard audience to court the casuals, just to make a few bucks.
I'd love to be proven wrong though.
