There's a lot of stuff we'd love to add, a lot that we planned to do - or even started doing and dropped. For example, we initially planned on adding a storyline, and end-game content that would increase replayability. While all of these would definitely be great additions, we are not going to work on additional features or content.
We're basically a team of two, we're well into the 5th year of development now, so we have to pick our battles. One of the reasons this project took so long is that we added many gameplay features we thought were cool, sometimes without thinking enough of the devevelopment cost. As en example, adding a new weapon or ship requires dozens of new data fields, delicate setup, balancing tests, collision tests, and so on.
We're just making sure now the game is working well, without broken stuff, in a way that's satisfying to everyone. Maybe we could have done more, but at the end of the day, the 1.0 release is something we're pretty happy with.
I wish you good sales after getting out of EA, so hopefully you will have incentive to throw some bonus content.
