I understand. So this means you have chosen for the best of both worlds... Creating a game that everyone could buy and a free dev kit where creating a space simulation where the sky is actually the limit...
I have actually waited a long time for something like this and It is a damn shame that no one appreciated the moddability of this gem.
This mod kit has a lot of the content already included and a solid foundation for a remake of a few masterpiece from yesteryear:
The First one that comes to mind is I-War and I-War 2 by Particle Systems. It is in a league of its own, even compared to today's standards like Elite Dangerous - it features full Newtonian Physics, a great story, sandbox mode and spaceship design that made sense.

The second one that comes to mind is Nexus The Jupiter incident where a lot of similarities can be found with Helium Rain regarding the logic behind spaceship construction. The game also featured Newtonian Physics.

The third one is Frontier Elite 2
Maybe the assets I made years ago for Oolite will find a new home...

Seeing that UE4 also supports VR ... well, what is there not to like.
Regarding your assets from the full game...
I managed to find a way to import the Helium Rain meshes and the textures present in the full game into the unreal 4 engine, and wanted to create my own kitbashes with them.
Would it be a problem to release a mod containing those kitbashes through the Steam Workshop given the fact that
1) if a my mod were released via this the Workshop, installing it would require the purchase of the full game anyways.
2) The re-usability of the contents from a .pak file would be limited - Templates and Ship Catalog files cannot be exported.
3) The assets would be rescaled and rotated and would take more work to reverse engineer instead of just buying your game.
I would love to re-create this ship using your (rescaled and modified) assets. Mainly this one:
The USS Lexington and its drones - Which would be a bit of an 'Anubis Max'.

And see how far this engine can be stretched.
Beyond the scope of this discussion a game that would include the following gameplay assets:
- Helium Rain's complexity - but simple gameplay and moddability
- Duskers style boarding
- Remakes of Ship models from I-War and Nexus and a few from 'The Expanse'
- X-Rebirth VR gameplay and magnitude
- I-War 2's atmosphere, story, gameplay, navigation, engineering mechanics.
- X-wing Vs Tie Fighter's Gameplay and mission creation support
- Objects in Space's Repair and Console mechanics
- Tartarus's / Alien Isolation ship interiors.
would really rock.
Could you point me to a document or tell me how to share a DLC .pak file via the Steam Workshop?
We're okay with people importing their game content into the game, and we're okay with Helium Rain mods built with the game's content too. As long as the game assets aren't reused in another game or otherwise published, it's fine !
To show you what is possible with your game assets here is the USS Lexington kitbashed with assets from the full Helium Rain game:

Now comes the hard part - integrating her into Helium Rain. :-)
