I strongly disagree about "copy-paste locations" - different places are the best part of the game, artists clearly put a lot of work into it. There are many unique sceneries and visual style of alternative USSR of 30s is done really good.
All in all, for me it was an experience of lost potential, but good experience.
Difficulty? I mean, I played on hard. I died once to falling, so wow very hard huh. Couldn’t even get killed when I was running through NL camps with a mallet fighting flamethrowers. Cry baby easy is how I describe this game.
The same garages, buildings, container locations, and enemy placements can be found all over the map. Not just the same container design btw, but same container locations in the same buildings.
The best part is the USSR ascetic though I agree there.
Of course there are the same garages and buildings: in the USSR (even the real one, not the fictional) there were a few variations of typical mass-produced... well, everything. Same buildings, same designs, same stores, even same clothes. There is even a famous movie from late USSR "The Irony of Fate" about a drunk guy who barged into an appartment in another city, because his key fits the locks, and they even have the same furniture.
So naturaly there are many look-alike buildings and stuff in Desolate. But every location is never copy-pasted twice, at least there will be small differences in furniture, crates, paintings and stuff. For example. I play now Once Human - an open-world looter-shooter from 2024. and there it's normal to see 100% identical buildings and bunkers, where they didn't even shuffle the furniture a little.
I won't be buying this since it sounds like low-quality abandonware. Taking it off my wishlist now.
