This game is trash
Multiple puzzles have no hints towards solutions, combat is stiff and tedious, you will spending 60-70% of this game running from point A to point B killing the same enemies in the same area you killed them 20 times before. None of the enemies are dangerous, I died once to falling. Hunters are spooky the first time you see them, then you realize they're pathetic loaches, hold the wall and you win every time. No wall? Hold the edge of a cliff you'll still win. The anomalies barely affect the player, with some of them not even able to hurt the player. Next time you see a fire or electrical anomaly sprint right through it, it's not gonna hit you. The only one's that are "dangerous" are the wind and gravitational anomalies because they'll just hit you no matter what. Apparently there's black holes but in 50 hours I never saw one. The game said I did but.....I didn't haha. Enemies will see you through walls consistently but won't see you standing right next to them. The only passable character dies off screen. Many of the buildings, underground sections, and character interactions are just copy paste crap. The mushroom area was cool to look at but there's nothing crazy within the biome so oh well. Here's how every quest feels "Fetch boy, aw good job, wanna fetch again" Boss fights? Oh you wanted something cool? Here's a boss where you walk in a literal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ circle and pull the same switches 20ish times to win, and the second is just leading them into spikes. They block your whole screen in the second phase with some trash fog but the boss doesn't really change tactics. He can just jump in and auto hit you in the second phase, that's the difference.

This game sucks ♥♥♥♥, 1/10 trash

Althou your review hold some truth to it (okay, many truths), I don't find it completely just. First of all, you can adjust difficulty in many ways and make the game very challenging. Yes, this game gives you quests where you don't get a marker on the map telling you where to go, some quests require a little old-school investigation.
I strongly disagree about "copy-paste locations" - different places are the best part of the game, artists clearly put a lot of work into it. There are many unique sceneries and visual style of alternative USSR of 30s is done really good.
All in all, for me it was an experience of lost potential, but good experience.

Oh no I’m not talking about quests with no markers, those aren’t a problem at all because it almost always gives you the quadrant it’s in. Even so if you enter many of these it’ll almost immediately give you a marker so there’s not much point in it. Maybe with the planes but I had already found all 3 before that quest.

Difficulty? I mean, I played on hard. I died once to falling, so wow very hard huh. Couldn’t even get killed when I was running through NL camps with a mallet fighting flamethrowers. Cry baby easy is how I describe this game.

The same garages, buildings, container locations, and enemy placements can be found all over the map. Not just the same container design btw, but same container locations in the same buildings.

The best part is the USSR ascetic though I agree there.

Okay, you are mostly right here. Hard difficulty is really not that hard and enemies rarely give you any challenge, especially after you level up a bit. There is a "custom" adjustable level of difficulty, where you can set enemy damage as high as 500%, but that doesn't exactly feel right.

Of course there are the same garages and buildings: in the USSR (even the real one, not the fictional) there were a few variations of typical mass-produced... well, everything. Same buildings, same designs, same stores, even same clothes. There is even a famous movie from late USSR "The Irony of Fate" about a drunk guy who barged into an appartment in another city, because his key fits the locks, and they even have the same furniture.

So naturaly there are many look-alike buildings and stuff in Desolate. But every location is never copy-pasted twice, at least there will be small differences in furniture, crates, paintings and stuff. For example. I play now Once Human - an open-world looter-shooter from 2024. and there it's normal to see 100% identical buildings and bunkers, where they didn't even shuffle the furniture a little.

I had this on my wishlist for sometime and am now looking for something new to play. Was looking through and saw it had mixed reviews...decided to look at the discussions and found some pretty good info.

I won't be buying this since it sounds like low-quality abandonware. Taking it off my wishlist now.
