Suddenly--Gone.
After playing over 200 hours on ASW, the HDD on my computer decided to die. I got a new one,but instead of Windows 10, the old (and I mean old) recovery disk formy computer is for Windows 7 (W10 was part of a free upgrade program Microsoft had a few years ago). Everything works, in cluding other Steam Games I have (including one that didn't work before because my graphics card's OpenGL wasn't set right). HOWEVER, when I went ot re-install my AwSW, it won't even start and I get an "Exception" screen. I even went into the sight and unsubscribed from all the Mods just in case, as I had problems with a couple of them before (especially the FPS one). No joy. What I'd like to do is paste the screen and see if anyone in the community can tell me if this problem is on my end or yours. This seems to be the only game that has this issue too. If there's a setting or update I can get to fix this, I'd like to know. Yeah, I got all the achievements, but The game and the music is still awesome to replay this game.

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred. Have you tried verifying the game cache? It looks like there might be a file missing.

And just to be sure, you're now on a system with Windows 10 installed?

How do I verify the game cache? No, I was on Windows 10, but now on Windows 7 because that's the only recovery disk I have for my computer atm. The other games seem to work okay though.

Oh, wait, I fitured it out. I deleted the game and re-installed it, and this this time I ran the verify and it said 105 files were missing. How does that happen? Are they getting lost in the download or is my computer blocking them somehow?

Update: SUCCESS! I was looking over previous posts of the problem and someone else posted a clipboard shot that looked very much like the one I was having, so I followed the instructions posted to fix his problem and was able to fix mine! (it was the same bootstrap files that were in my game I removed, though they were in different places) So I tried re-loading the game and--PHEW! It doesn't have the mods, but I've played them all already. I was so happy to hear that sweet piano intro to the game again. I'll probably buy the soundtrack too. Thank you for your patience with me and my typos too.

Glad you got it working, albeit without mods.
There had been some issues with using mods with Windows 7, though we were pretty sure we had fixed those at some point; perhaps the way you transferred the systems over made Steam confused in some way. Feel free to respond further if you want to see if we can get mods working for you again!

I'm quite happy just to play it without the mods for now. I was surprised previous saves and achievements in that latest play through were still in the game. Were my saves stored in my Steam Account when I downloaded the game onto the "new" HDD running Win7? You may be right that it got "confused" being on a different OS platform in the same game save-state. Taking out those bootstrap files fixed it though--glad I read through the discussions and found the solution!

Right now, I don't want to break what just got fixed, so once I play through the game again (mod-less), I'll think about putting the mods back in one-at-a-time and see what happens (I might get another WIN10 computer by then). For now, thanks for the help! I/ve already played all the mods I wanted to anyways (though I'm gonna miss Naiomi). Maybe going forward I'll try adding the mods again one-at-a-time (the reset one would come in handy), Thank you for your patience!
