When I used a key one of them had on them to open that grey locked crate there was nothing in it, but it was after I had cleared the bunker.

Come to think of it, you can also pick the lock - providing your lock picking skill is high enough.

make a timed bomb = clock, dynamite, wire, lamp battery
fix the cart as much as possible
