I had the same problem. Launch it again and look completely around your whole play space. Mine launched right behind me. I used the menu button on my Xbox one controller to recenter the view

This discussion is over a year old but in hopes to help others I'm sharing my solution. On PS4 Pro, you may get a black screen as well and none of the above solutions worked for me. The game even crashes shortly after. Other VR games played fine so I knew it wasn't an old version of the HDMI cable.
The issue was caused by the Super Sampling setting on the PS4 Pro. When enabled and you start the game in VR mode, you get into a black screen. If you start the game non-VR mode then is fine. When Super Sampling is disabled then both modes (i.e. VR and non-VR) will run without issues.
