But what's about real one?
Like any footwear, the combat boots need to be repaired if you are running the map, so I keep a sewing kit on hand (improvised or the regular one) and check them fairly frequently. I try to keep them above 85% to 90% durability at all times. Sewing kits are a high priority for me (hint: look in the underground dormitories at the B4 airfield - sewing kits can usually be found in the lockers there, meaning the normal lockers near the bunks that do not have locks on them).
Below is an image of my typical "dress for success" outfit for cooler areas on the map:
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3585959872
The image does not show everything; I will wear my combat helmet when going in to villages and POIs for additional protection against NPCs. I have a Katana in slot 2 and an axe in slot 1 in the image but will generally trade the axe for either a suppressed UMP (for general use), compound bow (for cargo drops and exteriors of POIs and bunkers), or RPK (when I am entering very high threat areas including PVP zones).
I prefer the suppressed Block21 given its ammunition capacity and relative power and the knife is an MK5000. I generally use the Block21 as a last resort.
Critical supplies are carried in the utility belt (canteen, sewing kit, 2 food items, meds, compass) and I keep a screwdriver and a box of bobby pins in the boots. I generally keep a grindstone and a change of basic clothing in the backpack (what is shown is not great for the Z sectors so I will change some clothing) along with mission-specific supplies.
When using the bow I will equip a military quiver for arrows. The quiver can also be worn (empty) if I am not using the bow to provide additional inventory space on longer loot runs.

Obviously things like heeled boots and other fashion articles wear out fast
I have found the hiking and combat boots wear out slower than most other types of foot wear. Construction boots too.
Combat I would say are the highly recommended and sought after ones because they allow you to carry a small item in them... say a compass and credit card..... I laugh at being able to put things in the combat boots... wish I could've done the same when I served....
in relation to condition damage, you're gear is safe from 'permanent damage' as long as they don't go 'red'. If you care about their cosmetic look, don't let them drop below 75%. If you care about inventory space, 85%. *edit: sorry, added this to quickly clarify what I mean by permanent damage -in relation to this, I mean, once they go red, they can not be repaired past 50%) *end edit*
to preempt a follow on question about terrain types for wear and tear: I can't say for certain whether walking or running on sealed roads vs running on grass / rocks wears out foot wear quicker or not. It's something I honestly actually haven't really taken much notice of, but with all my game time, its probably something I should know. So, if I was to make an educated guess based on the rest of Scum's mechanics, I would suggest that walking on sealed roads, which most 'general' foot wear is designed for shouldn't really wear them out. Obviously hiking and combat boots should wear out the slowest regardless of terrain. Walking on rocky surfaces or climbing should break the sneakers really quick -they're soft and pliable with weaker fabric and not leather like boots.. they aren't designed for climbing, nor running for long distances -they're made for comfort and style... so they make sense to me why they fall apart quickly
If your shoes fall apart and you have nothing left: you can simply wear socks, which rapidly fall apart or you could make improvised shoes from rags -they literally will fall apart quickly, but there's lots of puppets around in which you can get rags from... but, if you can't make them, its not a big deal if you have a high CON or a CON over 3. You won't need to worry too much about getting feet injuries for walking around bare foot with a CON 3+. It will take a little while before your character complains of foot pain.
AS an aside humourous comment, I would giggle no end if the devs introduced bindis in the grassed areas.. (if unable to google what a bindi is, its what we aussies call 'cats eyes weeds/caltrops', 'prickly burr' or 'jo-jo weed' for you American types. Other countries of the world, alas, I am not that cultured and am not sure what you all call them.. sorry :( ) and walking around bare foot we get a little pop up with 'bindi's T1' injury and watch our character hop around like mad... would be funny... oh devs, make it happen! hahaha
From my experience.
