Expect a soft wipe (map wipes, character stats stay) with every bigger update and there's still a few of them in the pipeline, so I wouldn't bet my wood on any chance for a long term savegame.
At least your loot and base will go poof every once in a while.

At least last time they left us the choice of doing a wipe or keep playing our savegame with a chance of some bugs due to some incompatible changes.

Hm, the character wipe is the worst. So I have to pray, that a upddate-choice can also be made in the furture. I am playing a lot of games, but never got this isseu with other games. Strange, that is happens so often here.
So I will think for some more moments, to start or not.
