Did you modify the resolution but didnt check the Hz that your monitor doesnt support? there is 60 Hz and 50Hz
Try uninstalling the game in the library rightclick
How to change the graphic without starting the game?
1. run regedit programm (Win+R, type "regedit", Enter)
2. navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Mindillusion/ForestVillage
3. delete the key "Resolution"

that should cause the game to default.
Please let me know if that fixes it or if you need help using the reg editor
as there is three I have MIB to update it.
Now I just have to find out if I can squeeze more fps out of the game or if I should shelve the game until I get the money to buy a new computer....
thanks for the update nice to know the results.
You cant push the games FPS faster if your system cant handle it.
Playing at x2 is the recomended speed and only use x5 or x 10 for short periods.
Lower the quality of the water reflections. No loss really.
Delete auto save / manuals saves up to the current have like 2. Do this everytime you load the game then you can see the amounts saves .
My specs
Intel i5 3.4 GHz 4 cores. first time I ever built with an Intel have always used AMD as it's faster but gets hotter. Not impressed with Intel. Refresher rates is not as good AMD.
Windows 7 x64 pro restored from windows 10. Hate windows 10 too sloppy slow missing too much stuff. Had windows 7 but it auto upgraded to windows10 lost all use of my multimedia tools useless windows 10.
Windows 7 will be around till 2020 and this system wont last that long anyways.
8 gig of DDR 3 ram
500 gig Western Digital HDD wont use SSD drives for games.
I use 3 - 5 terrabyte WD and Seagate expansion USB drives to backup / copy to all my files and have only few things on my system drive. This way if it crashes nothing lost.
Steam stores all our game regardless so we can just re-install with new systems.
My power Supply Unit is Antec 850w the PSU is the heart of the speed of your system. No PSU should push power usage over 66%.total load.
Video card Nvidea Gigabyte 860 OC with 3 gig of ram'
My system is 4 years old and works really well.
LIF plays fine no problems and with all the fixes gets better and better
Update drivers for your GPU from the manufacturer.
