i dont believe you can turn off specific sounds, can turn off all effects though. none of the sound effects are needed for the game.

Disabling all sounds really destroys the game, i loved the Music and Sound of the previous Tropicos, Tropico until 6 came, was one of the very few games were i never disabled the Music.
I found 2 Mods, if someone else finds it as annoying as i do.
"Silent Freighters" on Mod.io disables the Ship whistle
"No more Drum roll Newsfeed Bongo sounds" on Tapatalk disbales the Notification Sound.

Google "tapatalk tropico 6 mod pack ver.19.3" and go to that discussion thread. You need to download the modpack there, but the original user deleted it from their Google Drive. Scroll down to a post from user 'franklyundead' from March 14, 2025 and you can still download it from that google drive link instead.

You don't need the full modpack if you don't want it because there are a lot of changes. You only need the file "original_mod/ T6Mod.7z/zzz_No_Newsfeed_Sound.pak". Then right click on Tropico 6 in Steam, go to the tab 'manage' and then select "browse local files". Extract the .pak file to "/Tropico6/Content/Paks". You will not hear the stupid bongo sound for freighters or tourist boats again!
