But uh, it sounds like the server mod...is out of date?
When I googled it there are other people who've had the problem but they say it goes away after a while, the server just needs to change maps so that it will download the update and then you can join it.
But for me it has been over 24 hours and I still can't join any "combat" gametype servers. But I can join servers running the "ns2" gametype just fine.
But why am I the only player who can't join those servers then?
Because those servers always seem to be full, they were full all day yesterday and all day today, it's been about 48hrs now and I've still not been able to join a single combat server.
Are you able to join them?
I would unsubscribe to the combat mod then delete the workshop folder in your NS2 directory, then start NS2 back up and try entering the combat server and see if it'll download the combat mod directly from the server.
(edit: The workshop folder might actually be in the "%appdata%" directory, can't remember off hand. Do a search on your computer for "%appdata%" then click on roaming folder and NS2 folder and it might be in there.)
I don't play combat personally.
edit again: Just noticed you said you are on Linux, so not sure if those directory locations are valid on Linux.
Sorry, I never subscribed to any combat mod... Was I supposed to? Could that be why it's not working?
I've never used the workshop for anything before, so I'm not really familiar with how any of that works.
When you start NS2, there is a menu option called Mods. Click it, then scroll down to the combat mod and from there you can unsubscribe from it. (it's just a simple Yes/No option)
Whenever you download a mod it puts it in that list and also puts it in the Workshop folder, so you just need to find that folder and delete it as well.
errrr now that I think about it, perhaps you can't download the combat mod from the server, since you said you never joined a combat server in the first place.
If the Combat mod is not listed in the Mod list when you click on Mod in the menu of NS2. Then you probably need go to the NS2 workshop and subscribe to it. When you are looking at your library of games in Steam, click on NS2 and the page it brings up will have some links, there should be a link to the Workshop, then just find the combat mod and subscribe to it.
I didn't see combat in my list so I tried finding it in the workshop but I don't see it.
Sorry if I'm just being stupid, but typing 'combat' in the search box returns 0 results. The only thing I found had "combat" as the _image_ of the mod, but the mod itself was called Xenoswarm, so I'm pretty sure that's not it...
Maybe I'll try just deleting every mod in my mod list and let them all redownload in case there was some corruption the first time causing this problem.
