I didn't find B&B to cause any particular harm, it is in between shallow and unbalanced.
About the Recon Center, were you trying to scan the same asteroid a second time?
please tell me about. i know theres a lot to say but id like to know.
i mainly got the DLC to hit the achievements. i havent built any domes below like i mentioned and i know some people have problems with trains which i just didnt build at all.
let me know im in the middle of a 150 days colony. it could help me. im saving a lot during my progress.
I guess I was better going with a commander and two transports, but if you don't have any OCD then you should be fine to leave the waste rocks all around, grab the anomalies then leave. And this bring to the next step, developing the underground.
Because of cave-ins one needs those struts, and although the building cost is not much in the end, it is the maintenance cost that skyrockets, 4 metals each, so one cover just a small part of it (from elevator until wonders) or find an alternative to a logistic nightmare (like I placed two scrubbers and a stirling at each strut).
Moving around in the underground is not easy also, too many turns so one can rely on fast moving shuttles (maybe it is not by chance that I found water next to the elevator) or trying to build a winding train track. I made one to connect the elevator with three domes at the Cave of Wonders, took some 600 concrete (all made with waste rocks from rubble) and several Sols before drones completed it.
Trains can shuttle colonists finely, resources is a bit more complicated matter, for now I'm still skipping on that part by turning off all listed resources. But as with passages, there is the case in which colonists will commute through trains instead to relocate to a new dome, in that case I had to turn off the stations and wait for a while until shuttles returned quiet (means that all colonists moved between domes).
Underground basic domes, they can apparently host a spire but it is actually tied to a specific wonder, still the description just hint one can place a spire there.
Elevator and how it moves things up/down. The logic is to set the minimum amount underground wise, so if set to have 10 metal below it will check the whole underground, and if there are already more than 10 metal will request nothing to the surface. It is an odd way to make it works, more simple was drop below 10 metal and clear the request once is fulfilled. It took a while to understand it, and it is even worse with prefabs.
Order 4 stirling, get them immediately, but as soon as use one a new one is requested from surface. So one has to edit the request immediately after to avoid getting more prefabs than needed. And not to mention that not every prefab can be shipped through. I got a story bit that rewarded me with three underground basic domes, unfortunately those got "shipped" to the surface, but there they cannot be placed, and no one ever considered the case that surface and below can trade domes, so are not in the list of prefab that can be shipped below. In other words the event's reward is completely unusable : /
Yet about prefabs, there is an end-game tech that allows to turn almost everything back into a prefab, at the cost of forfeiting any upgrade. But something as simple as a large storage doesn't have the option, a landing pad can be refabbed but a storage not. And because of losing the upgrades, most of the time it is more convenient to demolish the existing building and build it again in a different place (but it is again OCD in action here).
Terraforming that doesn't remove dust devils, nor dust geysers, and the spike in brightness when reaching 50% atmosphere (blue skies). Not to mention those expeditions that sacrifice a rocket, all completely unneeded : /
I'm not allowing rival colonies yet, but got an event that adds one and so far the trade is nothing worth bothering with. But Global Support breakthrough is great, unfortunately it is tied to B&B, cannot have it available without to have the underground entrances as far as I know. I will later check if by turning it off with game rules leave the breakthroughs around, although I doubt it.
And likely more, now is your turn to vent : D
I'm going vanilla me too, and this is not going to change anytime soon : )
