It's a game which we all waiting for!
Keep up the fantastic work. You can do it!!
Have to agree, I've had my eye on this game for a couple of years now. Just purchased it last week, I'm enjoying it just like everyone else. Just waiting for those updates
This is the very reason I purchased, even though it's in Early Access; it reminds me of Front Mission!! We *seriously* need new FM-style titles, but I'm also content to wait for patches and content drops to ensure the game is finished :) We did have another one that was, at first!, advertised and shown off to be like Front Mission ... then the developers decided to go Epic Exclusive and they radically changed their entire gameplay model. No longer turn based strategy, now it's fast-paced "simultaneous action" meh :(
Phantom Brigade (I'm pretty sure that's the one you're talking about), when I played it, was actually pretty solid. It's not exactly what I was looking for/expecting, but the combat system does work out okay - better than my initial impressions made it out to be, at any rate. It tells you almost everything you need to know about what an enemy is going to do before they do it, so it ultimately boils down to being closer to a more traditional turn-based title than it first appears, but, like, with more steps.
The biggest hurdle to learning how to play the game is the interface; after you get over that hump it becomes almost by-the-numbers. I'd actually compare it to certain Tri-Ace games, like Resonance of Fate. There were some pretty reasonable bones, but it for sure could use some more meat on them. I haven't given it another shake in a while, so I don't know what changes or tweaks have been made since, like... 8 months ago. I assume the "concurrent turn-based" system is still in place.
At any rate, though, I personally prefer Dual Gear's Valkyria-Chronicles-style turn-based setup and its systems (though I still really don't fully grok the Melee QTE and how to do it "right" vs "wrong"). Also really excited for the FM1+2 re... mastermake? Whatever it is. A shame it's Switch exclusive at the moment, but since it's Squeenix there's respectable odds we'll get it here too at some point (preferably not through Epic, but at least it'd be on PC I guess?).
BTW Nintendo is releasing Front mission 1 on SWITCh and they'll release Front Mission 2 next so check it out.
