Missing Elder and Unbeatable Illusionist Lord
So, I've been playing Story Mode on normal difficult and for some reason I can't beat the Illusionist Lord.

First time I faced it I was completely clueless and got stuck in the boss room. After that I found a guide in which I read an elder was supposed to give me a hint. I though "I must have overlooked him" and started over.

On the second run I cleared EVERY monster on sight and couldn't find the elder. After that I looked on how to beat the boss and, although I failed to keep the mages in their positions, I managed to rearrenge them in a X formation around the boss. For my surprise, the boss was still invulnerable.

So, can someone give a hand? I'm not even sure if I failed the boss because I never found the elder or if I need to keep the mages in their original positions for it to work out and I don't feel in the mood to try it all over again for nothing.

So you failed to do something and then you find you can't kill the boss? I wonder why...

Guess I was unclear. I never found the elder for this boss so I don't know what is the actual hint/condition to defeat it. I read on a guide it was to arrenge the mages around the boss in X formation or 5 on a dice, but that didn't quite work.

So, what happened? Am I supposed to slay the mages in specific order or just don't let anyone move?

In the beginning there are 8 mages around the boss. You have to kill only the ones that are directly to his bottom, right, top, and left. You have to be careful not to make the corner mages move AT ALL, meaning you can't step on the block next to them if there is nothing there preventing them from moving over (like another mage). Once you've done that properly the boss will actually say something in a text box, indicating that you can now fight and defeat it.

Also, by the way, I don't think the elder who tells you about the boss's trick is guaranteed to appear. With the exception of a few, elders are random.

If that elder really doesn't appear every time, that seems like a pretty bad oversight. Considering there is no other way to figure out how to beat that boss unless you look online, or go through an absurd level of trial and error, it's a very egregious guidedangit.

A pretty bad oversight, or just a really bad player that has no idea how the game works... I'd bet my money on the latter. :2016snocone:

Yeah, I think so too, got pretty disapointed with this game story mode. On the other hand, the community maps looks great and I guess thats the focus for the game.

Listen, kiddo. I'm not your dad but if you have the money to make that bet you should buy yourself a guidebook about how to start polite conversations. Being harsh to other players because they have questions or a different opinion is not the best way of helping the community, just saying.

HA, through all my runs of the game I've never encountered something like this. But at -47 who cares, just restart.
