Does anybody have a set of specific instructions ("mkfs.vfat" command line, sfdisk partitioning command line, etc.) for how to set up a thumb drive that works with the Steam Link, from a Linux PC? Just an ISO image to apply with dd would also work, although I'd say I'd probably want that direct from a Valve account for safety reasons.
Anyway, like everybody else is saying...thanks a lot for the continuing support/updates!
Go here for the MS Windows desktop app: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/app/353380/discussions/8/
A very poor "workaround", since the active controller DOES show a moving arrow cursor on the animated prompt for controller display where it remains stuck, is to plug in e.g., one of my PS3 controllers to move forward. Whether this is more forced Big Picture mode integration or whatever, which I do not want, restarting steam on remote system, placing it into Big Picture mode (only due to your patch notes) and I can connect and so on, _including_ with the steam controller being turned on after already connected within big picture mode. So, clearly, the pre-existing paired steam controller is seen, active and taking inputs with the unit. Exiting big picture mode--still works on remote desktop. Canceling streaming steam and we fall back all the way to the initial problem with the steam controller post this update.
Rebooting the unit, power cycle and waiting 30 seconds, forced rebooting the steam controller, re-inserting batteries, unplugging and replugging the usb receiver (controller blinks knowing this is going on in the pairing)... steam link unit remains unresponsive to progress forward. Check pad mouse cursor on screen, yes steam controller moves it around, but _nothing else works_.
Please provide a fix or a successive update that eliminates this serious regression on Steam's own hardware this was designed for.
This has happened to me with both of my links.
I tried to skip the update but pressing b but it ran overnight and I've tried everything controller side to reset, switch to and from Bluetooth mode. Nothing works to get out to recognize the controller.
But it has the cursor that i can move
The audio just stutters continuously, in the settings menus or during streaming. I have not found a way to fix it except for downgrading. Could you please look into this ? Thank you in advance !
Same issue after today's update. I found that if I connect the controller via USB, connect to my computer to the library menu, and then switch the controller back to the dongle I'm able to play. Hopefully it gets fixed though.
Yep, I'll take a look at this next week.
1. While you "offer" beta/public selections for builds as a stage/prod deployment setup (good), you have build 909 only available currently for both (not good).
2. Any USB/Bluetooth NON-Steam Controller will bypass connect controller setup issue. PS3 and cheap generic xbox wired controllers were tried successfully.
3. All controllers involved will turn the unit on from off, as expected.
4. At the controller connect screen, an active Steam Controller that isn't progressing past, will have an active mouse cursor once a user tries to move it visibly into view from off screen.
5. Unplugging the wireless USB->Bluetooth transceiver for the steam controller, delaying a few seconds (remote unit blinking to indicate) and plugging it back in may (very rarely) move past the connect controller screen.
6. Regardless of 5 or 2, an active steam controller via USB Bluetooth connection will function as generally expected, once you're past the connect controller setup screen. If you disconnect the unit from 2, then the problem will revert back to the connect controller screen, regardless of what was seen for functionality in 6.
7. Beware: (for now), if you chose to do a factory reset as I eventually did, the unit will attempt to apply an update (successful), then reboot. Then it will download an update (?) and apply (successful) again and reboot. Since we're dealing with a very user restricted lil-black box it's non obvious exactly what's really going on, by design. Possibly reverts to an earlier/factory firmware, works, does it's expected checks and updates across last 2 updates or whatever. In any case, once completed, you're back to where you started, at 1 upon checking. Usually firmware only have so many writes capable, so this isn't the greatest thing to see either, but might be your default setup for handling a failed checksum download/upgrade process to recover and re-attempt.
8. Terrible workaround - plug in your cheap xbox wired 360 controller if you have one laying around and you'll bypass the looking for controller screen. Powered on already or powering on after that your steam controller unit will generally just work, while you keep it in this setup.
9. Yes, the steam controller unit is seen in settings controllers.
