Anyone else find the busy map confusing?
Dont get me wrong, game looks very promising. Its probably me, im an old guy. Map is so full of glittering busy background tiles heavy with decoration my head spins. Anyone else find this? Hard to see what counts. I find this more and more with recent 4X titles. Sales tells design "make it pretty" and design goes overboard.
I doubt there is anything to be done, but if you have suggestions, please post for slow people like me.

I constantly zoom out so that its actually possible to see anomalies and other important information when the map mode switches.

I concur! However, I don't really find that in modern games one need to pay a lot of attention to the details of the tiles. Maybe for putting the first few districts, yes, but then I switch to the mode of clicking buttons and making numbers go up -- the AI never can pose enough of a challenge for me to start caring about minmaxing and the most efficient use of my resources.

I might be old school, but I love clear maps like way way back, Imperialsm I and II. Had a simple direct beauty to them. Minimalism is an art too.

As a fellow old guy, may I enquire if you had this feeling in Endless Legend 1?

I know the team is already working on see what can be done on that matters. They already improved a bit the situations but i totally understand that depending on the user this is not enough

Here's an idea! How about giving us the ability to LIST all of the city improvements.... :steamfacepalm:

Readability is far better than in EL1, but still not great. An option to switch ON/OFF the strategic view on the fly would be a great help (without having to constantly zoom in zoom out).

Also, on topic of readability, during battle the difference of level altitudes is sometime very tricky to catch, espescially when there is vegetation. It would be great if the battle view from Humankind could be back (the simple one with only monochrome drawn texture).

Same issue, and believed the same exact thing in EL1.

Beauty has far overtaken usability.

Not as much confusion with EL1 as I recall.
1 A big plus for EL2, and a simple (? - what do i know, but seems simple) would be to make forests uniform and avoid bleed into adjacent tiles. You turn on the yields and can see the different outputs, and you know that forest is a defense bonus in combat.
2 Option to turn off weather. Map is busy enough without fog and rain to obscure it further.

Game shows tremendous care and promise.

I do find I have to zoom out to look for strategic/luxury deposits due to the busy map. And for the lava environs sometimes it's ambigous which elevated platform can be approached

I believe it's not just the art style.

There are many different types of terrain.

In a game like civilization there were very few, some had wet variants, and that was it.

Resources and points of interest were very clearly visible, but in EL2 we have forest, forest with dead trees, glowing plants, normal plants, wet plants, volcanic plants, etc etc etc...

They all have wildy varying yields too, specially after we start uncovering the flooded areas of the map, I can't imagine what I'm looking at without yield icons or zooming out to take a better look.

Sometimes an area looks interesting, but when you hit - it turns out those are dead lands and most tiles grant zero of all resources too, there are many variants of dead zones as well.

Busy maps do more harm than good. Imagine a road map...and the blue line is generally a larger road, but sometimes an interstate, sometimes a commercial road. The player is forced to mouse over everything for the tooltip, then remember....all the hexes.

I find this more and more in games, where hexes bleed into each other, and you cant tell what is what. Ive noticed in an EL2 battle, when your unit is on a forest, the forest is "squashed", so you can see the unit. So the unit looks like its on clear ground....so you have to remember, hexes and stats and unit icons and...

This is how I believe the map should look fully zoomed out. NO territory names (useless clutter), and for gosh sake the names of the cities in each zone is really important:

Everything is difficult until it is easy. Everything is confusing until it is obvious.
