Beauty has far overtaken usability.
Not as much confusion with EL1 as I recall.
1 A big plus for EL2, and a simple (? - what do i know, but seems simple) would be to make forests uniform and avoid bleed into adjacent tiles. You turn on the yields and can see the different outputs, and you know that forest is a defense bonus in combat.
2 Option to turn off weather. Map is busy enough without fog and rain to obscure it further.
Game shows tremendous care and promise.
There are many different types of terrain.
In a game like civilization there were very few, some had wet variants, and that was it.
Resources and points of interest were very clearly visible, but in EL2 we have forest, forest with dead trees, glowing plants, normal plants, wet plants, volcanic plants, etc etc etc...
They all have wildy varying yields too, specially after we start uncovering the flooded areas of the map, I can't imagine what I'm looking at without yield icons or zooming out to take a better look.
Sometimes an area looks interesting, but when you hit - it turns out those are dead lands and most tiles grant zero of all resources too, there are many variants of dead zones as well.
I find this more and more in games, where hexes bleed into each other, and you cant tell what is what. Ive noticed in an EL2 battle, when your unit is on a forest, the forest is "squashed", so you can see the unit. So the unit looks like its on clear ground....so you have to remember, hexes and stats and unit icons and...
