The easiest solution for this would be:
- If you're running Windows 10/11, go to the Settings app. Quickest way to reach it is to hold down the Windows key on your keyboard, then press the letter I.
- Otherwise, click the Start Menu button > By default on Windows 10 you should see a gear/cog icon on the left of the Start menu and click that, if not then scroll down the list of programs until you see Settings and click it > On Windows 11 click All at the top right of the Start Menu, then scroll down until you see Settings and click that.
- Click System > Display > Advanced display settings.
- Check the refresh rate of the display you're using. If it's not set to 60 Hz, change it to that.
- Play TRON 2.0. From the game's main menu click Options > Display > Set Synchronization to On.
If your screen's refresh rate is 60 Hz and you turn on Synchronization (aka VSync), it will limit the game to 60 FPS. The problem you're experiencing happens when TRON 2.0 runs at too high a framerate. If you needed to change the refresh rate, make sure to change it back after you're finished playing. :)
Also, kinda shocked that *The* LDSO replied to me, big fan of all that work regarding the Killer App mod and the continued existence of a way to play Space Paranoids Online. Pretty honored ngl, and thanks a bunch for the advice, even if it didn't end up working.
Hmm, okay, based on the additional details you provided, it sounds like this might instead be an issue with the game's audio.
When you have the TRON 2.0 game launcher open, click Options and place an X in the boxes beside Disable Sound and Disable Music, then click OK and Play.
Try playing the game without sound for a while, and see if you still have the same freezing behavior.
Which brand and model of laptop do you have? I'd like to look up the specs on it to see what graphics and sound solutions it uses.
Also, which version of Windows are you using? 10 or 11?
Since, based on the description of your issue, none of the most common troubleshooting steps have helped: I'm going to guess you probably have a version of the laptop with an Intel CPU, and very likely Intel Xe graphics.
If you have more than one graphics GPU in your laptop, you could try switching TRON 2.0 to run on the other one. But without a specs breakdown, I don't know if it's possible to do that.
If you only have the Intel Xe graphics, it's mostly worked fine since its introduction, with more modern games. But it had poor compatibility and performance with many older games.
Intel claims to have improved this with driver updates. I don't know if your driver installed for the Intel Xe graphics (if you have it) is up to date or not, but updating that might help.
You could visit the Support page on Dell's site and look for the Drivers & Downloads section. They'll ask you to type in your laptop's model number and then you can check for any updates.
There is something else you can try, as well. TRON 2.0 uses DirectX 9, which is what Intel Xe had poor support for early on, that they claim to have fixed through driver updates.
But you could try using DXVK, which would essentially make the game use Vulkan instead of DirectX 9. Intel Xe has much better support for Vulkan.

There's an explanation in that post on how to find and use DXVK with TRON 2.0. Not guaranteed to help, but worth a try if updating your Intel Xe driver (if you have it) doesn't work out.
Even if you don't have Intel Xe graphics, it's still worth trying DXVK.
I had the exact same problem Sundance describes. I followed LDSO's guidance and got DXVK installed. That didn't work by itself, but I next updated the drivers, as LDSO suggested. I have a Dell laptop which has the Intel Xe graphics. The game no longer freezes.
So, I'm not sure if you only need to update the driver or if the other improvements are also required. I've only tested for about 30 minutes where it was freezing about 5 minutes in previously. but it seems to run stable now.
Thanks for the tips!
