1800 with all DLCs or 117 at launch?
About me: First time to anno series; played and LOVED Ceasars 3&4; played and loved some other city builder games so I know basically what to expect from those games.

I've played several hours 117 demo (break 1 hr limit), and I do like it, reminds me of the sweet old days with Ceasars. However, I found that 1800 is on sales with all the DLCs available, and from what I saw people posting (at least some of them), it feels like 1800 was so great with the DLCs, that 117 at launch won't match the quality of it. It may, after its own DLCs, be a better game eventually, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Is this statement true?

Should I buy 1800 now and come back maybe a year later for 117 with some hotfixes and DLCs? Or I can just go with 117 at launch? How was 1800 at launch, did the DLCs made huge improvements at that time and do we expect 117 will be a similar case?

1800 is for sure gonna be king for 2 more years I would say, 117 is good but it will be low on content in comparison for 1-2 years. if you have not played 1800, it is a gem

Why not get both?

Anno 117 is more like Ceasar, and the quality of demo was pretty good on technical level. Full game at launch should be similar.

Anno 1800 is completed game right now and you can get it for $35-$45, but it has a different gameplay, on fasade they both are very similar, but there are a lot of small changes, revamperd economy, and infantry combat, different way of upgrades ( through research), it all adds up to different experience in general.

Nothing so special about 1800 if you dont like the setting , I have less than 20 hours in it because of that. For sure i will enjoy more a roman setting , even if they put all this woke stuff in it.

Dont fall for the ubisoft trap with the DLCs btw.

So far it seems Anno 1800 is faster paced (fitting the setting of industrialisation). Bigger, larger, better, more efficient is the devise.
On the other handside you have Anno 117 with the roman setting. It's less complex right now and focussed more on building an atmosphere rather than overloading you with tasks.
None the less it's only a demo.

If you like industrialisation it's a no brainer. You can still wait for Pax Romana getting cheaper and more complex in future.
If you dislike playing like factorio, then i would recommend you playing Anno 117

anno 1800 has tons and tons of content, maybe a bit to much.
i have seen a lot of people saying that they never finished a game with all dlc. still its a great game, if its on sale than you will likely get your money's worth out of the game.

anno 117 will be a bit more manageable, at least on release. with the dual start position on launch i am also a bit more hopeful that they will do the same for future content, so that most people will be able to actually play all the dlc they buy,

so i would say that it kind of depends on how many hours you are looking to sink into the game,
if you have plenty of time and you like the setting than you could most certainly go for 1800.
if you don't have that much time to spend or if you like the roman theme a bit more than i would wait for 117.
Most definitely 1800. It's better, bigger, TON of content, like really, with all the dlcs is something like 300 hours of gameplay with ton of replayability, it's not even close
1800 for sure, all DLC make it months of playtime. best game ever in this category
