The parrying wasn't underwhelming, It was actually powerful. The issue with Parrying is that it has a very, very, very, tiny window of time where you can activate it and successfully parry. And with the flashing of the enemy when it attacks its not the right time to parry but when it actually would hit you. So, if the parry mechanic becomes even more important later, lets say for a boss fight where you can't defeat him with out using it, I think a lot of people will abandon the game because they become frustrated.
This is my point if you want this to be fore a more wide audience. If this is intended for the small number of people with very good reaction time then there is no need to change anything.
