Periodic CPU Spikes
Hi There,

I'm getting periodic CPU Spikes while playing Solus. My setup is :
i5 6600k @ 4.4GHz
R9 Fury X
Z170 Chipset w/ 16Gb 3200 DDR4

I play the game exclusively with my HTC Vive.

The spikes are not always regular, but occur with an average frequency of about 1 per 2 seconds. Sometimes there are 2 close together, other times they're quite equally spaced. There is definitely a regular pattern that sets in after a few minutes. You can see the pattern here: http://imgur.com/a/FyueA

I'm testing this by leaving my headset stationary and watching the steamVR frame timing window.

I have gone into the DefaultGame.ini and have tested all combinations of settings for AllowOceanUpdate
AllowSkylightUpdate
These have made no difference.

Other games, including those written in UE4 are not suffering the same frame drops.

Would love to sort these out as they wear thing after a while in VR.

Love your game and that you've added VR support. Bravo!

The Updates that you are referring to are usually the cause of that.

But do try to change SmoothFPS to false as well. Some have reported that as a culprit.

Cheers! :D

Thankyou for your reply!!!

So I disabled SmoothFPS which had no effect. At this point I fiddled a bit and found that if I disabled RestoreSettingsOnStart everything was fine (CPU wise).

So I deleted DefaultGame.ini, used steam to verify the Solus installation, then edited the brand new DefaultGame.ini to have Ocean/Skylight Updates disabled.

This sorted out the problem, but once I had restarted Solus, the problem came back...

Very strange indeed...

Thanks for your help.
