A question: Why does the character you inhabit wear a full suit with some kind of helmet and visor?
When the escape pod crashes on the planet the computer voice says "Atmospheric conditions nominal", then the hatch automatically opens. all this would seem to indicate a safe, breathable atmosphere. So why a full "spacesuit", with helmet and visor? It does, of course, offer some protection from a fierce environment, but the statement was "nominal" conditions.

Yeah temperature extremes seem to be a real problem for you character. Perhaps your sensors were a tad optimistic It's possible environmental conditions can be manipulated by the Sky Ones. At least that's what was suggested in the histories left behind by the subject-race aliens. And the Sky Ones are mean Mothers, as it turns out

The silly suit you wear looks something like a hazmat suit. It could have been cooler. Literally and figuratively. Why does the visor start turning red around 85 degrees F ? and heat waves distort your vision over 100. I lived in the desert for 40 years, and it was much hotter than that every day. 85 degrees was considered cool. Heat waves are only noticeable at distance, and only enough to distort vision through binoculars.

The "Sky Ones" are misnamed, given they live underground. Even in The Ball, they are underground. All of their records say "We came, we helped, and the ingrates turned on us. We punished them and left." They seem to be dressed in armor and revel in the symbolism of death. They pose as benefactors, and don't seem to know what they really want. If I had to guess, I would say they want to be worshiped, but they aren't deserving of it.

I don't think they can control atmospheric conditions. If they could, they wouldn't live underground. They can manipulate conditions in limited areas and use it for their own purposes - like attracting and using lightning for power generation, but I don't think they can or want to control day/night temperatures and the natural cycles of weather on a planetary scale. The machinery for it would be immense.

I know there are stories about A 'Daar Sum waving his hands and moving mountains and rivers, but doesn't that sound like Moses bringing in a plague of locusts, turning the Nile blood red, leading the ancient Hebrews across the desert and parting the Red Sea?

Fun fact for godless agnostics - the evidence to date indicates the Red Sea event (lilely the 'Reed' Sea of the eastern Nile Delta) was a tsunami event triggered by the explosion of Santorini (a volcanic island north of Crete). The ash plume of which was witnessed by the Exodus as a 'pillar of fire'.

Now let's see if we can get this thread locked!

I always thought the pillar of fire was like the devil's cigarette lighter(look it up): an ignited pressurized well of petroleum. It would be a lot more visible at night than an ash plume, and the passage does say a pillar of fire by night.

No one is Godless. You can run, but you cannot hide. In the end, one way or another, we all answer for our acts. And the Sky Ones are way overdue considering their considerable hubris. Nemesis waits and keeps the tally.
