If you use the games parkour together with weapons and gadgets properly its great fun.
This.
Good that you're in story mode. You aren't competing with anyone, so just stay on a difficulty level that allows you to have fun. That's what it's about, right?
I moved down to Story mode early after getting ganked to death like you are experiencing, as well as suddenly hearing the beep on my watch and being stuck in the night. Rather than give up, I took a breath, started a fresh save with a clear mind, and had fun despite the insane grabbing. Once you get a hang of it, don't feel that you can't do the same with what you learned to get on the good foot if you think you need it. No harm in that. I just upped it back to Survival mode now that the grabbing has been adjusted, and it's still good.
Loot everything you kill to get the simple resources after clearing close threats, not during. IIRC, DL1 had some breathing room between zeds. Here, they are everywhere.
Buy stuff from the trader(s) when you get there, and sell all you get. Grab the old wine from the monastery cellar from time to time to give you early money if you need it.
If you can, get the nearest safe zones up early so you have refuge and don't always need to return to the hall.
Stay away from the night as it will only add frustration. Check your watch and do a 9-5 shift, then find a place to sleep until morning, then go out again. That'll make life easier.
Yeah first few levels were challenging but fun.. and Nighttime at Level 10 for me is still scary difficult. But it's better then current nights in DL2 where it's super easy @ Legendary Level 200+.
Ask for someone to drop you some materials and weapons over on the Discord, lots of friendly folks. I needed Wiring of all things to upgrade some stuff on my end.
I'm actually using one of the crossbows for most areas and love it, but I also love the 1 handed Slashers.. The 2 handers always seemed slow, but better for mobs and packs of enemies.
Turn the difficulty down if you need to you can always turn it back up.. Harder is good. A lot of folks already think the games too easy. Yet those are the people that beat the game within 48hrs and now have nothing to do.
Bro bro you can't do that in the quests and in a campaign that forces you into dozens of high-intensity situations in sewers and alleys that will kill you a hundred times if you don't have patience or knowledge of the other games.
As I mentioned earlier, just look at your watch and do 9-5 shifts to avoid the night.
There is one early mission that you need to do at night, but after the first part, if you want to avoid the volatiles, you can exit and return, and it will bring you to the nearest safehouse. Sleep and continue the rest of the mission in daylight.
Stay in the daylight and keep chillin' ...
As someone just stated, just play in the game in the day, i do.
Yeah, the zombies can stunlock you in a way with all their shoves - even when the damage is negligible once you've armored up, that is something which irritates me even still at level 10.
Survival Sense, rooftops, crouch walk to stealth attack sleeping zombies, firecracker lure in alleyways with a molotov to farm a bit of XP, unlock safe spots over chasing objective markers.
