Confused by the economy
New player here. Just made it into the second sector. I am confused by the state of the economy.

In the first sector I could make profitable trades on items moving between stations. With price variations from events, I could even make really good profits from time to time.

In the second sector, I can buy cheap goods. I can buy cheap goods at EVERY station in the sector. Which is the same as saying NOBODY actually buys the goods at a decent price. Every price in the sector is noticeably below the "system average". It clearly is NOT the system average, because there is not one single price anywhere near it. (NOTE: I mean for the goods you can actually buy. There are some great prices for things you can't actually buy anywhere in the sector.)

What gives?

Hmm.
Try buying a bunch of stuff from the second sector, and sell it in the first sector?

Maybe "system average" is something like, the totality of all sectors?

As a new player, I would farm up some Face of Gozu to grab a bigger ship before trying to tackle the "normal" economy. Save up for a mining laser, then look for the blueish green nebulas on the map and zoom in, if you see huge rocks with some crystals/metal sticking out head there and blow them up with the mining laser. It takes awhile with the MK1 laser, but each face is worth like 50k credits. You can also buy a warp drive, go to a new system and come back, and the rocks will respawn. Hope this helps! The start of the game is somewhat brutal.

The best way to trade is to think of each sector as kinda its own market. It will vary, but overall some goods will have good buy prices in 1 sector and good sell price in another sector So trading is cross sector for it to be viable. Also, since caro space are so low in this game, even with the best cargo extender and best ship, I advice going for those things that cost the most. I did good money hauling salt, and other stuff at 10-30k range.

Note: This games trading is very poorly balanced and it does not really handle the market principles at all. You can make much more money doing battle missions or mining even. I tried to roleplay trading, but found the whole system to be very lacking and switched to combat/merc pilot.
