New/Casual Friends Who Play Arena Shooters!?
I want to get into these kind games again, but even after years of playing and then stopping, I just can't have fun playing with the current demographic of sweaty/laggy tryhards. Is there a place where I could make new friends that don't play as much or that are in east usa that I could befriend and play with casually. Getting spawnfxked right out of spawn with 80 ping on 1 mbs upload, isn't fun or enjoyable & before someone says that is unplayable connection and not worth playing, my brother plays apex legends with same internet just fine, cuz he generally only has like 35 ping, so it is possible just need to find people that play any arena shooters with that low of ping. :) I live in Ohio for the record. :)

We can try. I don't know the spawn points. In East US. Just checked my ping on my saved servers. Lowest at 24 NY, highest at 72 Texas.

you may want to try Quake Champions' training modes. TDM with real players against bots play like PvE in other games and it's quite relaxing.

I appreciate the advice but tbf I hate Quake Champions, now as far as pve goes I don't have a problem with it. (Just that a majority if not all of arena shooters, don't really offer that afaik.)

I just want to play an arena shooter with like 25-35 ping, like my brother does with apex. lol

Another rebrand, same idiocy.

I play video games to escape reality & to forget how unfair real life is, as a way to socialize as well, but still in an enviroment that I would consider fair. Doesn't matter how tall, short, skinny, fat, white, black, etc. you are, all that matters is who is better, all of that goes away not only in modern gaming, but in these older games when the only way to play is with 70+ ping where people warp everywhere and tank shots that would kill someone otherwise. But touche I see your point, guess I'll just stick to lonely single player games, where it is fair, but boring since it's playing by myself. lol

that's totally false, some ppl have naturally better reflexes than others, some have better hand-eye coordination, some are poor and can't afford good gaming rig and peripherals, while other play on the top notch equipment. Some ppl have only 3 fingers and cannot hold the mouse normally, there are even ppl who play without hands - with their feet, and it is not a joke.
So no, gaming is also not a fair environment, it's same s**t like real life in regards of fairness, just discrepancies are orbiting around other traits.

More fair than real life, at least things like looks, height, etc. don't matter upon success & the things you listed here either A) Are rare cases or B) can be worked upon. I was talking about the games themselves though, not things like outside factors to be honest anyways, so this is all moot anyways. My brother plays Apex on Xbox just fine, I should be able to play this game and others like it just fine too, apex is surely way more demanding than 20+ year old game haha.

Not sure about the wider genre at large, but for Quake Live the Freezetag community is the most chill/casual/accepting of newer players.

Use this server browser and filter by FT game mode: https://ql.syncore.org/

The usual populated servers are NA-East:
White Lightning (https://discord.gg/QphNxfzf)
Frosty Fox
Pill

Side note: If you play White Lightning, DO NOT LEAVE THE GAME ONCE THE MATCH BEGINS. There is an automated system that will ban you after 3 mid-match leaves. Also its generally frowned upon to quit mid-match.

Seems like the so called community is just like with any other long dead game: impossible to get in, only few autists are left. If you want to just have fun (because games are about that: having fun, it's not a JOB)- that's impossible these days.

Basically it's like hitting your head to a wall and enjoying it. Go ahead if you're a masochist.
Bought this game in a whim... ~Ten years ago had a different steam account and was playing this game now and then, but to be honest it felt like masochism already back then.
Nothing unlike some lan sessions with my real friends... i.e. casuals and not people who are Professional Autists who do nothing but play 15,000 hours same game.

Internet and streamer culture has really ruined online gaming as a whole. I find playing Q3A against bots ten times more fun than facing random sweats in some random internet lobby.
How peculiar.

to OP - you may want to try out quake champions in practice mode - it's kinda PvE where you play with other players against bots.
Joined a clan arena server once and got kicked because as soon as I joined a team, after spectating 10 mins, the game was saying 999 ping with "connection interrupted" despite the game's scoreboard and cmd ping tests saying it was ~60ms - whats up with that?

Now Ive learned my lesson and only play Quake Champions in practice mode which is code for smoke fent and drive fast in school zones.
What's you guys high score in QUake Champions searching for match queue? I've got 16 minutes before I almost hit a kid and his mom at 90mph and called it quits.

To get matches going quickly, i recommend adding players who you enjoy playing with on steam and inviting them to fill up the lobby, eventually you might get a big enough list of QL friends to fill lobbies consistently

This game and/or Quake III need to be remastered so badly, it sucks that I can't host servers on this game, even with port forwarding, I mean I can, but players will have to put their iP in the console to join, servers aren't publicly visable &/or able to invite players. Game is beyond broken in that regard. lol
