Can't Join My Friend (Steam Deck X Windows 10)
So I played through this game with a friend already, and we're trying to do it again and for some reason the multiplayer isn't working at all for the Steam Deck user, me. I'm playing in Desktop Mode connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse so this is not a controller support issue. We finished the tutorial and they're able to play multiplayer just fine, but when I try to join them or accept their invite, the game does nothing on my end, no loading screen, no server connection, nothing. I don't have the option to invite them in the bottom right like they have on their screen.

I can't find any information on how to actually play multiplayer like this. It says I'm connected to the game's servers but when set to online, nobody else ever joins like they do on my friend's Windows 10 laptop.

Anybody have any advice?

game doesnt support cross-play between other platforms. no doubt, linux and windows 10 have the same issues. you'll have to dual-boot to a linux operating system to play Hover with your friend

It's not crossplay, it's using Proton to play the game as if it were a Windows game. No other games have this problem because it's translating the game from Linux to Windows file architecture. Should be no difference between my copy and his. It uses Steam to handle invites and Steam recognizes that we're both playing, we're able to send each other invites and such, just accepting the invite from other system isn't doing anything, not even attempting to connect.

There's also this person who said they got multiplayer functional on a Linux machine https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/app/280180/discussions/0/3595590330313244022/
As per their instructions I'm switching to the current version of GEproton, which may force the game to install the Windows version rather than default to the Linux version which is apparently 3 versions behind the Windows game. It's been downloading for a while after changing Proton versions.

Update: Switched to GE Proton and the game wouldn't launch anymore, just hangs at Steam saying "Launching" after selecting normal or DX9. Tried switching to Proton 7 like the person in the thread I linked suggested and it still won't launch.

No worries, I appreciate the effort regardless.
